Question Truck wont start after break in

Someone was nice enough to break into my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 2 days ago and bust out the steering console cover. Now the truck will not start. Everything powers up fine. I even tried to jump start it but lack of power not the problem. When i turn the key all lights light up and all looks good. When I turn key to start engine everythig goes dark. All lights off and nothing happens. Before i spend stupid money taking this to a shop r dealer does anyone have nay insight as to what may have happeed? Is there an antitheft system that needs to be reset? Thank you for your replies/

Does all the power go out, and not come back on till you turn the key off? Was the ignition switch damaged?

Should this thread be moved to the 3rd gen truck forum?

They probably removed your steering cover to get to the ignition starter switch. They disconnect the ignition starter switch from the key cylinder and start the truck with a screwdriver. We can help you fix this, just need a picture of the underside of your steering column with the cover removed.
