Long story, but mine is cracked and leaking, but has not come apart. have any of you dealt with this? What did you do?

Replace the o/d section. I do believe it is replaceable as a unit. Make sure you get one for a 4x4 though. The 2wd version won't work.

 

you are correct, I need the 4x4 version. also, the 47RE are different too. same externally, but not inside, they have different parking pawl and arm. I already had one shop want to put a used 47RE housing on it.

where is a reputable place to get one?

 

That's a really good question...... Trans shops are notorious for having horrid reputations. You could try junkyards nearby, if they don't have any, look for something on car-part.com. Would have to have it shipped in though..... probably not cheap. Might be able to get a rebuilt unit from Jasper, but, they may wanna sell you the whole trans.....

There ARE new ones available, including reinforced units specifically for diesels. Prices run from 350 to 500 bucks for JUST the housing.
