Default 46re dodge ram 5.9

So yesterday i was driving home and as i was on the highway the truck wouldn’t shift and would stay in 2nd gear i suppose i was also low on gas idk if that has anything to do with it but whenever i’d let off throttle it wouldn’t do anything and stay in gear and it made it climb mph faster but i didn’t want the trans to overheat idk if it’s a limp mode thing but, when i would flip OD on then off it would seem to fix it for a bit till it would be stuck in gear, i also tried to over take and when i floored it it downshifted and just redlined didn’t even grab a gear at all i was also on a slope though, after i stopped at a light it seemed to start shifting normally

P0601 is a memory checksum error, generally implies a failed PCM. So long as that code is present, doing more troubleshooting is pointless.

so that could basically be the reason why at certain points the trans starts tweaking correct?

Yep. That code says the PCM has a serious issue. Trouble is, it can manifest itself in any number of ways.... from annoying little problems, that you can ignore (for a while) to total system failure.

Okay sounds good i’ll be ordering a new pcm this week, do you have any recommendations for company’s or sites to order a flashed pcm?
i was thinking of using a junkyard one but i heard that if u have a skim it won’t work

Yeah, PCM needs to be flashed to the correct VIN for everything to work right..... I personally don't have a recommendation, though, a member in the 2nd Gen section has had success with SOLO PCM..... If one of your local parts stores can get you one at a reasonable price, that would be the preferred route though. That way, if there is a problem, you can talk face to face with a live human being.

Match the number on your pcm to the replacement. I put a used one in my 04 1500, ordered from ebay. Had the dealer program it. .
