working on my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.7L Hemi ( oil-antifreeze wedding ) I found, at least I assume, another detail on the electrical installation that powers the fuel injectors. Someone or he himself tried to repair that part of the electrical installation and in my humble opinion caused the check engine light (DTC P0404 = EGR Valve) to come on very often. I did a thorough cleaning the first time, reset the DTC and after 30+ miles check engine ON, changed the EGR and no change). When I inspected this installation in detail this morning, it "clicked" in my head that this superficial repair could be the reason for the frequent illumination of the check engine light. The photos show damage to the insulation on two wires, and someone used thicker wires than the original ones on other 5 wires (the original ones are 18AWG, and 14AWG were used for the repair). If any of you respected DODGE FORUM members have a detailed diagram of that part of the installation, please give me a link or a PDF file of that diagram so that I can try to bring it to the correct/original state of functioning.
Thank you in advance.
Sincerely BOBODIV
how they did insulation
main 13wire - 14 pin connector from one side
main 13 wire 14 pin connector from other side
5 "fixed" wires inserted large wires instead original
I check all and did not find diagram of that wire harness.
Please, when you have time, check my oil - antifreeze wedding thread any comments about photos I'll greatly appreciate.
Thank you very much
HI HEY YOU,
this is main RED male connector connected to BLUE female connector on MAIN wire harness. I assume that these damages to the wire ( due to very low voltage )cause voltage drops and manifest themselves with "check engine" ON.
The wiring diagrams I have access to don't show those connectors, unfortunately. Do you have a factory service manual? If not, should probably get one. Generally, you can download them for 30 or 40 bucks.
