Thank y'all in advance. I graduated Nashville Auto Diesel College in 97. I've been out of the dealerships for about 12 years. I'm just here for advice. It's been a while and I'm a little rusty and I'll post my questions when this gets approved. Thank y'all and God bless. 💀
Nothing right now. 😂 I've got my 2012 Honda Accord down to the block. Timing belt tensioner let go. Working on my God Daddy's 02 Ram 1500 4.7. Has a horrible misfire. He replaced the fuel pump which is only putting out 47 psi while running which is a bit low. His daughter didn't know how to put gas in it so he replaced it thinking that was the problem. Didn't fix anything. I checked the plugs because it was throwing PO 350 codes for coils. The electrodes were blown off of the plugs so he replaced them. Truck still runs like crap so I did a cylinder balance test and it's running on 3 cylinders. Codes went away but came back after I did that. Makes sense but I've never seen a vehicle lose that many coils at once? To my knowledge it doesn't have an ignition module unless I'm wrong. Between the fuel pressure and the cylinder balance test I'm a bit confused. I also got a cylinder #1 injector code. That's because it's not firing correctly. Shouldn't the ECM/PCM be in control of the coils? Any suggestions? 💀
Well I hit the wrong button and lost my new post that I was getting at. I'm fairly new to forums and I'm smart phone retarded. 😂 Anyway... Fuel pressure is a bit low, apparently my God sister doesn't know how to put gas in a truck and I'm stumped. 3 coils getting unplugged tries to kill the truck but the other 5 doesn't affect it? I thought it was trash from the fuel lines from the tank to the injectors or the rail but now that doesn't make any sense since the coils are acting like that. I have a crappy scan tool but until I start doing a cylinder balance test I don't get any codes? I know it's something simple that I'm overlooking or overthinking. 💀
I checked the IAC. It was loose on the side of the throttle body. It looked new but he has never replaced it. He didn't even know what an idle air control valve was. I took it off and cleaned it. Not much carbon build up in it. Unhooked the battery before I removed it and cleaned it to reset it. That still wouldn't cause the 5 coils not to fire. I've never ran into anything like this before? Got me scratching my head and my butt at the same time. 💀

Yeah. I'm worried about the PCM. That's what I have been thinking. I know that's where the coils get their signal from. I used to have some noid lights but I had over $16,000 worth of tools stolen a few years back. I don't think it's jumped timing because there is no rattling noise in the front of the motor. Ohming out the coils won't tell me if they are actively firing, that will just tell me if they are good internally. I guess it's time for a ride to Harbor Freight Tools. Lol. 💀
Practically impossible for these trucks to jump timing with the chain they have.
The distributor controls injection in conjuction with the crank position sensor (not spark). Follow pickup wire from dizzy to cps on top of bellhousing. Might be damaged or oil soaked.
The trucks have a lot of grounds that are pretty small gauge so before deciding on ecm check those as well.
