I have a 2006 dodge Ram 5.7l hemi that has went through an electrical fire I have since replaced the Main wiring harness and components affected it now runs, but now it is having charging issues I have replaced both the alternator and battery and cleaned any grounds visible is there anything else I should be checking for to solve this?
I believe the voltage regulator is part of the PCM.... Is it still the original PCM in there? It may have been damaged in the fire as well.
thanks HeyYou for replying YES the Original PCM is still in I was doing some scrolling through the forums and came across a conversation on External voltage Regulator is that a viable solution long term or is investing in a new/used Plug and play pcm from eBay?
is there overheating risk to the alternator or battery?
does the voltage regulator cut power/ send power periodically or only when in operation?
I don't know how viable the external regulator is for the newer trucks. (mine is a 98.....) Check around, see if anyone else has done it, and HOW they did it. It's certainly a MUCH less expensive fix than replacing the PCM.....
