Default 2005 - Programming Transponder key per owners manual

I’m at a loss why I cannot program my 2005 transponder key per the owners manual instruction.

The owners manual says I need two working copies of my key.
You insert the 1st key into the ignition and turn to the on position (I.e, don’t start it).
Wait until the security light goes out, and remove key.
Within 15 seconds, using the second key insert the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position (I.e. don’t start it).
You will get a security light and a beep sound saying the truck is ready for the new keys.
You put the next key(s) (up to 8 total) into the ignition within 15 seconds. Wait until you hear the beep which means key is now programmed. Continue for the remaining keys.

This is not working for me. What is the reason? I have the correct key blanks Y-160-YP.

What color are the keys you're trying to program?

Slightly different:
How to Program a 2005 Dodge Ram Pickup Ignition Transponder Chip Key

Step by Step How to Programming Instructions:

Note: You must have two valid keys to add a new key to the system. If you do not have two working keys you will have to have a locksmith program a key for you.
1. Insert the first valid key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position for at least three seconds, but no longer than 15 seconds. Then, Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and remove the first key.

2. Insert the second valid key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position within 15 seconds. After 10 seconds, a chime will sound. In addition, the Vehicle Security Light will begin to flash. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and remove the second key.

3. Insert the new key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position within 60 seconds. After 10 seconds, a single chime will sound. In addition, the Vehicle Security Light will stop flashing. To indicate that programming is complete, the Vehicle Security Light will turn on again for seconds and then turn off.

The new key is now programmed. Repeat this procedure to program up to eight keys.

I’m not understanding. All three of these keys do work.
I thought the key head color only meant if it had a transponder chip or not. Since all three of these keys work, All of them have transponders in them, To prove that I must need a transponder, I got a Y159 metal key blank, copied the key cuts into it, and tried to start my truck. It started for 2 seconds, then died. I then held the transponder key next to the ignition switch, and while using the metal copied key, and it started and ran.
I truly thought the two different color key head in my picture was just the vendors choice of what color they wanted to use, since all of them work.
Just to get me on the same page, what am I missing?

Thank you for your input.
The only other thing I can think of is from reading other posts it’s saying that a total of 8 keys are allowed. My thought
is maybe somewhere in my trucks past it once had 8 keys programmed. Which would not a 9th key to be programmed.
i’m not sure how you can zeroize the memory, but other than that, I’m at a loss.

I would expect that if you try and program a ninth key, the PCM would "forget" the first key in the rotation. Only being able to program 8 keys over the life of the vehicle? That's entirely possible I suppose..... Not like the manufacturers haven't done stupider things over the years.
