Default Rusty Ram w/ 10k

Anybody in the northern states having serious corrosion problems with their Rams? We have an 05' ram with 10k on it and the bumpers are both rusting, the wheels (aluminum part showing) are corroded, the plastic covers (20") have little bubbles in them, and even the antenna base is rusted. Per another post a week ago, they just replaced the trailer tow harness because it corroded and would no longer work. The bumper rust is all over on the inside of both, but on the outside the front and back have "outbreaks" of dime-size surface rust, mainly in the corners of the rear and around the fog lights in the front. We just bought the truck this fall and it had no rust on it then. I'm assuming it's mostly due to salt, but we haven't had this problem with any other vehicles (Ford & Chevy) with 60 - 70k on them. I read the other posts on the rim corrosion and bumper corrosion, but nobody seems to have posted any resolution.

I dont know if you consider NY a nortern state....

but my truck has been through 1 year of about 5 snow storms...lots of rain...cold temps...hot temps...etc etc. and no problems with rust at all.

My truck also comes up to my house upstate near albany so its been in its share of salt and snow.

But i also get my truck washed about 2 times a week most of the time.

Do you wash your truck or not alot?

Probably every other week, which is more than I can say for the Ford that sits right next to it with no rust.

I would check the history of that truck... From what you said, those conditions are premature. If that truck was used as a community plow truck or salt truck, that might make some sense..

I live in Canada, and my truck has zero rust. and they pour salt on the road's up here, like mad. Hell on the new's it's like "Tonight we expect 10 inches of salt, so drivers beware" lol.

[sm=funnypostabove.gif] Haha, ten inches of salt... Seriously though, I am from Nebraska, and have never had any vehicle begin to rust after only one year, but I am big on spending an entire day to wash my vehicles thoroughly undercarriage included. Now that Im in So Cal. there's nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the input. We purchased the truck on 10/28/05 with 5120 miles on it from a dealer, who had used it as a "sales rep driver." (so it's still considered a new vehicle) Here's the interesting part- the truck came with the sport package, and I told them that I was concerned about painted bumpers and that I would rather have the chrome plated ones so that it would better withstand chips and rust in the long term, so they charged me $500 and swapped bumpers and grill with a brand new truck. So, here we are less than three months later and the bumpers and rims look like crap.

We must be using some pretty serious salt up here that only attacks Dodge trucks.

Are you sure it was off of a "new" truck?.
