Default Trailer Tow Group Question

Dose anyone have any info on what came with the trailer tow group on a 2004 Ram 1500? Where there multiple configurations?

I bought my Truck with the intent of towing a car hauler with electric brakes. Power Dodge in Valencia California sold me the truck and told me it was all set up for this. They even pointed out the pigtail to hook up my brake controller that was in the glove compartment. Trailer Tow Group was on the window sticker so I believed what the dealer had told me. My research had also shown me that there was only 1 Trailer Tow group available so I didn’t think there should be any problem. I finally got the trailer I had been waiting for and this weekend I went to install my brake controller. I found that there was no where to plug the Dodge provided pigtail under the left hand side of the dash as described in the instructions. I went in to Power Dodge to ask if I was missing something and they were baffled. After about a half hour of them walking back and forth from the service bay to my truck they told me that this was not an option on my truck. They told me they would confirm with Chrysler on Tuesday and let me know my options. They never called so I called the Chrysler customer service line to check on the available options and they told me I would have to talk to my dealer and then eventual hung up on me after refusing to give me the requested info or transfer me to a supervisor. My wife then called the dealer to try and get the number of a southern California Chrysler representative who could answer my questions and they gave her the runaround and would not give her the number. I half way expect this from the dealer but having the factory be this rude is making me seriously doubt weather I will ever purchase a Chrysler product again. If anyone knows these options or could get me in contact with a helpful Chrysler representative for Southern California it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Matt

The harness you're looking for is way up under there (blue) behind the parking brake up against the firewall. You have to pull it out from behind another one. If the pigtail was in the glove box, I'm sure it's there. Hope that helps.

Tim is right, the harness is WAY up there.

besides, the option only has the harness for the electric brakes, factory hitch, stiffer springs, and the 3.92 rear axel gear for the 1500's

the 2/3500's have the harness, and hitch and thats it.

Thanks a lot guys, I found it. The funny thing is I took it to the dealer and asked the same question and they couldn’t find it. That’s when they told me the truck did not come with it.

Thanks again, you’re the best.

Given that, you may want to reconsider where you take it for service next time...makes you wonder.

7-Pin Wiring Harness
750-Ampere Maintenance-Free Battery
Heavy Duty Engine Cooling
Heavy Duty Transmission Oil Cooler
Class IV Hitch Receiver

This is all that is included in the trailer tow group. The 4 pin connector is wire tied behind the bumper.

This is my first day on the site. I'm in the process of buying a new Dodge. It's a 05 1500 reg. cab 4x4 with a hemi/auto trans. It doesnot have the tow package. The salesman said all I need was the hitch as the truck already had eveything I need. They even threw in the hitch to make the sell. Does the truck have what I need to tow a small light weight trailer(small car)? He showed me the
trans cooler and said they were all equipped the same. They had another with the trailer towing package but it was a two wheel model. Which one would be best?

Mine was the same way. If you have the Hemi with auto, it comes with a tranny cooler and should come with the heavy duty engine cooling option. All you have to do is add the 7 pin wiring harness and the hitch. Both are high quality pieces (Mopar). I put both of them on my truck myself for less than $200 total and 2 hours of my time. Most of the time went to running the 7 pin wiring harness back up to the front of the truck while securing it to my liking while following the factory wiring harness. The hitch took all of 15 minutes to bolt up. Also, if you do the hitch yourself, don't cut out the plastic bumper cover. If you need more explaination, just let me know and I can walk you through the whole setup.

I've towed a few different boats and trailers ranging from 3500-5500 lbs with this setup and never had any problems.
