Default Pros/Cons of single vs dual outlet exhaust

I know there are tons of exhaust threads on here, but this is one I havent specfically seen yet.

I have a 2006 4.7 QC and am trying to decide on the specifics of a new exhaust system. I have read on here in many posts people talking about getting single outlet exhaust with dual chrome tips for around $200 and that sounds about right to me. I have also been quoted by the local muffler shops for $350 for dual outlet exhaust and dual chrome tips.

So is there a big difference? I have never owned a vehicle without true dual exhaust until now so this is pretty new to me. Is it worth the extra $150? I am more concerned with having a deeper sounding exhaust in the low RPMs than I am anything else. I'm just wondering how much difference there will be between the single and dual outlets in this regard.

Any comments are appreciated and sorry for creating another thread on exhaust as I know its a tired subject. I just dont want to waste money where I dont need to.

I think it all a matter of cosmetics. The performance will all be the same with a cat back system. I just had the Single in Dual ourt system installed on my new Ram and I love it. It was $345 clams installed and welded up nice. no Clamps, with Stainless steel magnaflow tips.

There shouldn't be too much of a difference in sound between dual and single. Personally, I went with just getting a flowmaster 40 series installed where the stock muffler was. Got it done at a muffler shop for $175 including muffler and install. I have a Hemi Sport, so I have the body "kit" form the factory, and couldn't go with duals. I also had a chrome tip from the factory, so I wasn't too worried about how it looks.

The sound changed dramatically. If all your looking for is sound and not looking to break the bank, just swap mufflers. Cheaper then a whole exhaust, and gives you the sound you want. Then, get a chrome tip for the end, and your set.

Just my $.02,

Chris

I appreciate the comments. Really all I am going for is the sound, but I wanted to re-route the exhaust "Lightning Style" to come out in front of the rear passenger tire with dual chrome tips so that will cost a little more, but the guy at one of the shops said that is cheaper than running it out the back beacuse of using less pipe.

There is a simple bolt on for that and you don't need a muffler shop to install. Can't think of the name but do a search on this site.

Alien YZF is right. I think Gibson makes the exhaust. Super truck series or something like that. It is a smple bolt on. You my want to go to a muffler shop and slip the guy a $20 or so to weld the sytem up after you install. This ensures no leaks at the seams from the clamps the kit supplies. I think the kit is like $350 or so. You can do it yourself. It will probably take more time getting the stock system off. Use lots of lube. And I mean on the truck.[8D]

What's the benefit of still spending $350 on it and having to do the work myself? I dont mind doing the work, but not if I can pay someone else to do it for the same amount and it will be done better (with welds instead of clamps).

I had a single on my Hemi, then switched to a dual. I didn't notice any difference in sound. Well, the dual exhaust seemed to even out the pitch somewhat, but nothing really noticeable. I think its mostly about looks. I ended up liking the dual look better, so I went with that.

Thats kinda what I was hoping to hear. I'm thinking that if I am going for a side exit exhaust in front of the rear passenger tire if I put dual tips on it you wont be able to tell its a single pipe going to the tip unless you really inspect it.

What is the point to owning a truck if you don't do the work yourself?
Why not buy a minivan and hire people to haul your stuff?
Why ask a question if you already know the answer?

When you do things yourself you usually save money, do a better job, and get a better product.

That has been my experience.
