Hmmmm, $1k to play with huh? Well, my truck runs fine so I would invest in my studio - probably a nice Mossman acoustic/electric bass (oh wait, those are wll over $2k) or a nice Roland drum machine or something.
Or maybe just some 305's for the truck but then you would need 4:56 gears too..........

hmm, exact same situation as me (only I haven't been alotted $1000 to upgrade things). I would to the following in order
Nerf bars (mainly for wife) $200
Flowmaster $300
Superchip $300
MP3 player $150
Ram cover for tail lights $40
puts you right at your limit.

Ok, i have had two 2005 ram hemi qc. I put a lot of money into both trucks. I currently have a silver one with 2k miles on it. With all the mods i have put on my 4 different Gen 3 rams here is what I would put on first in order.
1. Magnaflow 12588, (number may be incorrect it is single 3" in, dual 2.5" out). Purchae this from performancepeddler.com. Email them for forum discount price. Have local muffler guy install it. Just use standard NON mandrel bent pipe. This will keep the backpressure about where needed. I have had flowmaster 50's, 40's, etc. If you want loud flowmaster 40's will be fine. If you want a good low, muscle sound, without cackle and not to much sound get the Maganflow. I will never have flows again.
2. Secondly, a CAI. I have had K&N, Airaid, AFE, and AEM. Buy the polished AEM. I searched the net for the lowest price. I got it from RPM.oulet for 228.99. They are all good, or better than stock. But AEM has 4" tube all the way. The AEM come with TBS also. I know some say it doesnt do anything, but AEM only sends it for vehicles where it showed improvements and gains. It is included for our trucks, so it does something! It also looks better than the rest. The new dry flow filter is advantagous over all other oil filters too.
3. I would put a Superchips 8315 flash paq tuner on the truck. Very easy to use, and is by far the best plug & play mod. I was amazed with it. I have had Jet, Hypertech, and now this Superchips and it is by far the best.
After those performance mods you are going to get into more labor, more costs, different gears, etc. Gets expensive from there. I like exterior also, including 22's, chrome Mopar tubular steps, chrome grille, checkerpro flush bed cover, chrom bugshield, stereo, dvd players, etc. That is what I have done to my current truck. But I can promise that the performance mods I mentioned from experience are as good as other competitors products. It comes down to price, look, and what brand you like. I have had most brands and am 100% satisfied with my CAI, exhaust, and programmer.
