Default Please tell me what you think...I gotta ream the dealer!!!

I have had my truck for exactly 1 year as of today.

Over the past summer.....my truck would do something weird.

I would get in and start the truck and find that my radio settings were set back to default and my tripometer (which I always had set to the current trip under the tach/not the overhead) would be set to the total amount of miles.

This happened about 2 times last summer. Brought it to the dealer...they couldnt duplicate the problem...of course.

This didnt occur again until last week....and now it happened this week 3 times so far!!!!!!!!!!

what could it be......nothing else seems to change....

just my odometer is set back to the total miles even when i have it on trip.....and my radio settings are lost.

what could it be???? battery....ECU....electrical problems????

please help.

how do i get this across to the dealer to fix!! It doesnt hurt the truck as far as I can tell...its just REALLY annoying to keep having to reprogram my stereo setting and resetting my tripometer.

Well if they can not duplicate I can understand why their hands are tied. Maybe if you catch it on a video camera they will at least believe you. Then maybe they will at least start shooting blind and replacing parts.

lol....how am i gonna show them a video?

I cant "see" it happening....

its just i get in my truck during the day...and all my settings are lost and reset to the default.
they should believe me...its been in once already for it.

what do they think I enjoy losing my vehicle for the day for no reason??

**do any of you think this could be the fault of the battery???...perhaps it has low voltage when the truck is off and its not strong enough to keep the memory of certain electrical systems??

Any battery strong enough to turn over a V8 is strong enough to retain computer settings.

Check out the battery connection to the main fuse/relay box, make sure the connections are clean and tite, check the grounds too, to the engine and to the chasis. Sounds like at some point you are losing power to one of the fuse panels or something along those lines.

its not the radio....

I dont have the factory stereo anymore anyway......

I know its not the radio because I had this problem when I had the factory stereo and I still have it with the kenwood deck.....

but my tripometer resets itself too.

***Put it this way...its the same results that you would get if you were disconnecting your battery to reset your ECU....only Im not disconnecting my battery.

I lose my settings inside the truck....dont know why.

Check and make sure the IOD fuse in the pdc (under the hood) is pushed all the way in.

I'll check out the fuse panel and check the ground wires like some of you have mentioned.

I will also clean the battery terminals and retighten the cables to make sure there is a secure/strong and clean connection.

**Its just like disconnecting your negative terminal on the battery when you want to reset your ECU.....you lose your radio settings and your tripometer goes back to the odometer on the instrument panel. I cant believe I never made that connection/analogy before.
the only thing is...im not disconnecting my battery! and my settings are still resetting themselves.
