Default running boards?

I was thinking of going with the dodge running boards. The chrome ones. One reason is I don't want to pay $550 for the Stainless ones and 2 I don't like plactic. Any thoughts? Thanks

Their cool, I hate the plastic molded ones. Their UGLY! they totally ruin a truck for me. I have stainless steel / chrome ones and they look cool but they hurt your ground clearance a bit.

I went today (Tuesday) and got mine from the dealer. The accessories book from the dealer said they were stainless steel 3" round tubular side steps. I took one out of the box and it was really light. He said they were made out of aluminum and then chromed. Well ok I thought aluminum is light and will not rust right. Then when I got home and read the instructions I fine that the mounts screw into the body and not to the frame. although it does have some braces that mount to the frame. This seems a little odd to me. I'm about 235lbs and I can just see me stepping up on this damn thing and it pulling out and bending the truck. Did I get the wrong side steps? Are the Weston's better? The dealer said that I had to remove the body mount bolt to install the Weston's is that right?

Hey Bill. Are you saying the chrome ones are crap? I think they should be fine. I'm worried about 2 to 3 years from now and they are rusty. HELP.

First of all I got the one that the dealer sells with the Dodge logo. I'm not saying their not good, they just don't fell that strong. I did not know that they mounted to the inside of the cab and had a support that bolted to the frame. There are these holes (taped over, I'm sure use to make the panel) that you have to push the flat nut through and then tighten up. The area of the body does not seem to be that strong to me and I feel after a few years it may pull out. I was just wondering if all the side steps mounted in the way? Or if anyone else has had problems with them pulling out?

Has anyone seen the power steps that dodge is now offering for ram pickups?

They bolt under the body where you can't see them, you open your door and they unfold in front of your very eyes, step in your ride and shut the door, they fold back up under the truck where you don't see'em.

pretty cool stuff. I think there's a website where you can see'em in action
