Default Installing a posi

I'm peg-legged in my '04 HEMI and the 3.91 gearing reminds me of it every time it rains.

Has anyone out there installed a posi-unit into this rear-end? If so, who made it and was install shade-tree mechanic easy or Master Mechanic hard? If you had someone do it for you, how much? Does anybody know of someplace to swap rear-ends. I've got 30K very gentle miles on this one.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

I have a Detroit Locker in my jeep, but not my truck yet. I highly recommend it. It causes a little premature tire wear but the added traction is unbelievable. I got it installed, (with new gears) for $150<--- CHEAP!! I just shopped around my town and found a mechanic that was into off roading also, so he hooked me up. Every other mechanic I talked to quoted me $750.
I don't know if you will need something as hard core as a locker, but Detroit is the best. Aslo look into selectable lockers from ARB (just know you have to also buy an air compressor). Detroit also makes a selectable locker called the Electrac.

If you are anywhere near Amarillo, Tx, I'll give you the name and number of the guy that hooked me up. He did a great job at a cheap price, something that is hard to find.

Thanks for the offer but Amarillo's a little out of my weekend road-trip range. Where'd you get the locker?

I ordered it from Rusty's Off-Road. I'm not sure what kind of axle you have but if it's a Dana, you'll be able to get it from Rusty. They only sell Jeep parts. I would just google search "Detroit locker" and shop around on the websites that come up and find the cheapest one. Mine ran about $530.
Good luck.

No one makes a selectable locker for the rear 9.25 Chrysler rear end that is more than likely under your Ram. I searched...and searched...and searched some more. ARB, Eaton, Detroit etc. They all said no dice. There are automatic lockers available from Detroit and Powertrax that will drop right in your rear diff. The powertrax unit is supposed to be pretty simple to install. My buddy did his in just a few hours.
I was unhappy with my factory limited slip performance and the clutch pack retaining clip problems that have plagued so many also got me so i decided to go with the Detroit Truetrac.
It's a limited slip but there are no clutch packs to wear out and no special friction additive to use. And there is no uneven tire wear like a locker. It is completely gear driven. The response is nearly seamless in low traction. None of the praying it engages like the factory unit.
The install in my opinion is best left to a professional. I gave $300 for my install and $470 for the unit itself.
I couldn't be happier with it so far. I can't seem to get stuck but i'm still waiting for a good rain to get in some deep mud.

Good luck whatever you decide.

I orderd mine from West Coast Differentials 1-800-559-0950.
The customer service was very good. They were very patient with me and all the questions i had. The guy i talked to even told me about some experiences that he and friends had with the various types of lockers and Limited slips.

Here is a link to sort of explain how the Truetrac works http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/TrueTrac.shtml#TrueTrac

Good luck and great traction!

I looked into the Powertrax and they don't list an application for the 9.25 newer than 2003. Maybe it's just out-of-date literature on the web. The TrueTrac sounds good, though. I'll give West Coast a call.

Thanks,
