Had a little fun with an F250 Powerstroke
It is my buddies truck - an 06 Powerstroke 4x4. He has a 6" lift and 33" tires, air intake and exhaust. He and I were leaving for lunch at the same time, and were heading down a non-congested street. I was ahead of him, but slowed down so we could be first in line at the stoplight. Our windows were down, and we both said "lets see what our trucks can do." He was powerbraking and I could hear the turbo spooling. I have a 1500 QC Hemi, 4x4, exhaust and intake, nothing major. Stock ride height. I started to powerbrake but the tires kept coming lose, so I laid off it. The light turned green and we went. I lost traction off the bat, and he pulled ahead slightly. But I started to catch up in 3rd and 4th gear, and by the end was slighly ahead (about half a truck length).
Now, I'm not bragging about beating a lifted F250. But, I thought he would have eaten me on the low end, but was surprised he didn't. We only went about an 1/8th mile, so aerodynamics didn't have much to do with it (for example, if we were doing 0-100, I'd take him because he is running bigger tires and sits higher, but a short distance is all about power). In a way it felt nice, in a way it didn't. I mean, yeah I beat him. BUT, his truck weighs over 6,000 lbs, has 33" tires, sits 6" higher. On the other hand, he has 215 more lbs of torque and hits it A LOT sooner than I do.
All in all, I won't hear him talk anymore crap about how quick his F250 is lol. But I'll still have to hear the "I weight more than you, have bigger tires, and sit higher" argument.

I got a jetski he had to get one bigger and badder. so one day he was all my cars the **** it can beat anything and looks better than yours. it was a 86 carlo. so i said screw it and drove home and got my 79 camaro which he didnt know i had, after school we went to the parking lot and he was like WOW thats a nice car, whos is it. i stated that it was mine and he said yea right, i clicked the Viper alarm and said wanna go? he promptly shut the hell up and to this day hasent pulled that crap with me.
Just alittle fun heh.

the power strokes are ball-less in the bottom end. they dont make good power untill they hit above 2000rpm.
now, if you want a race I've got a guy with a beater 94CTD that will eat corvettes

The truck switches over to 4th gear @ 45 mph.
Secondly, thats why I stopped power braking because I rev'd it too hard. He powerbraked enough to get the turbo going.
Lastly, how fast are you going at the end of your 1/4 mile run in 3rd gear? 85? 90? Maybe you have a "special" transmission, but mine won't stay in 3rd gear to 80 or 90 mph.
I am not trying to give you a hard time. But we stopped at about 55 or 60 mph, so there was no way to run a 1/4 mile at that low a speed - hence my ESTIMATION it was around an 1/8th mile. It could have been a little more, but definitely not a 1/4. Maybe a 1/6th a mile? lol.

Good kill!! I have a 2005, 4x4 hemi, and raced a friends 2000, 4x4 F250 (powerstroke) a few weeks ago when it was dry out. I have stock weenie 17" SR-A goodyears, and he's got BFG A/T's. I had him off the line because all he did was loose traction. We were neck and neck the whole way....... did I mention his "Bully Dog" was turned to the highest setting? hahaha. I thought for sure he would have smoked me with the bully dog. On a return run we switched to 4-Hi. Off the line we were neck and neck again, but he slowly kept pulling from me. I would have had him in the high end, but that would have been another 1/4 mile down the road and a car was coming at us too, so until another day.....
Something was said about your truck shifting to 4th gear @ 45mph???? My truck doesn't shift out of 1st until 45mph. I know that it will shift out of 5th and into 4th at 90mph, so there's a lot of room for gear changing in there. I'm not really sure where 2nd and 3rd shift yet, because the 545RFE as some of you know has 2 second gears, and I have not learned yet how it determines which to use, or when to engage them; more on that later.
Keep putting those Fords in there place........Second! haha

Maybe someone else on here knows, but if you had the transmission in Drive, and floor it from a dead stop, does it use two 2nd gears? Or as someone mentioned, is one for upshifts, the other for down shifts (for hauling, coasting, etc)?
If he has not regeard to match the larger tires, that powerstroke will be a turd on take off. Now if he had 4.88's-5.13's in it, I'm sure there would be a different story posted here.
You can have 1000 hp and 1000 ft lbs of torque and it will do you no good unless it can get to the ground.....
Now with all that being said, my fried has an 03 Cummins all stock set-up except he has a Quadzilla something-or-other and K&N intake. All I can say is holy crap that thing is fast!

Well I would be willing to bet money that it does not use both when up shifting, because that would kill your performance/acceleration. I would guess that the PCM's decision on which to use has something to do with either the speed of the engine (RPM's) or vehicle (MPH's), or both. Now that I brought this up, I'm gonna have to research this..... Maybe I'll talk to one of the guys and the proving grounds....
