I'm a Dodge man, but if I had to choose between a Silverado, Titan, F150 or new Tundra, I'd take the Toyota.

As for the topic, a little, but you have to look hard.
I wonder if DC has something up in 07 for a power boost? Yes, it would be easy to go with a 6.1, but how about pulling more power from the 5.7? It has been at its current rating for a few years. There is always power improvements to engines throughout its life cycle.

Sandiegohemi, I'm with you. I'll take my Dodge over any of the other trucks. And I should know. I've owned a 02 Z71, 99 Expedition (same as a truck, just a different body), and a 02 Tundra TRD. I have nothing but good things to say about that Toyota. Powerful, very smooth ride, no weird noises (even after 70,000 miles), good 4 wheel drive system. And NO ONE can deny that a Toyota engine will run forever. The only problem I had with my Tundra was that it didn't say Dodge on it.
The only way that we will know if the new iForce will be able to smoke a hemi is to put them on a track. I'll be in Dodge's corner.

I think Toyota is taking a different approach to this truck than Nissan did. Nissan focused on the engine and transmission. I think Toyota realizes people use trucks well, as trucks. Some of us will want to race em, but they aren't designed for 1/4 mile times, 0-60 etc. I mean, yeah its nice to know you are "faster" than any other half ton, but it means nothing in the real world. What matters is realiability, comfort, towing power, safety features, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if the Toyota is slower than a Dodge or Nissan. But I think it blow the Titan away for the reasons I just mentioned.

I think you are right on, Dodge has to do something for 07. The new Silverado is going to have fresh hp and torque ratings, the Tundra is coming out, etc. I can't imagine Dodge laying down and dying in the hp wars. If anything, I think Ford and Chevy will back off a little bit (mostly for financial reasons and the market for 8 mpg trucks isn't there) before Dodge. But who knows, maybe tomorrow gas will go down to $1.25 a gallon! Yeah right.

The 5.7 will kick the crap out of the IForce 4.7.

I agree with you the Toyota 4.7 will beat the Dodge 4.7. But both engines are designed for different goals. If the largest gas engine Dodge offered was a 4.7, you can believe it would perform better than it currently does.
As for how badly the 5.7 beats the Iforce V8 - depends what we are comparing. Acceleration? Hemi by about 1.5 seconds. Hauling? I don't think that's a far comparison because of displacement, but the Hemi pulls more, faster, and with less effort. Gas mileage? The 4.7 is probably better than a Hemi, so it wins there.
Toyota recognized it's 4.7 is NO CHALLENGE to the Big 3 and Nissan, which is why they are increasing it's displacement to 345 cu.

The newest engine from Toyota
with perhaps 2 year old technology
is the 4.0L V6 with variable valve timing
and a high compression ratio.
If you just up the figures for that V6 by (5.7/4)
and then add 5% for technical improvement
the 5.7V8 from Toyota will certainly be impressive.
DCX has done Ram/Dakota owners wrong by not
'freshening' the 4.7V8 more often. The HO version
just moved the torque peak higher. To 'brag' about
and engine design's worth you need to 'broaden' the torque peak
all the way from low rpm to high rpm.
If you compare the BMW, Audi, Toyota and 'cousin' Mercedes
V8s in the 4.5 to 5.0 Litre range to Chrysler's 4.7V8
the comparison comes out pretty bad.
It is even worse when you compare what it costs to make
a Chrysler 4.7v8 compared to those 'premium' brands.
Let's hope that technology from the DCX 'World Engine'
leaks over to the small Chrysler V8 and brings it
up to something that a Ram or Dakota owner can be proud of.

We aren't talking about the 4.7L and its drawbacks, we all know it has issues. As I said before, if the largest gas engine offered in a Dodge was a 4.7, they'd improve it. But instead of wasting money on R&D, they came out with the Hemi. Arguing for a more improved 4.7 is pointless, because if you want more power, torque, etc, spend the extra money on a Hemi.
