Default RE: Checking odometer

I have this problem now to correct any confusion. I just bought a used cluster and thought when I put it in it would read my mileage but it does not. There is a plastic computer part on the back that plugs into it and I assumed when I put mine it it would change also but it did not. I disconnected battery and that did not work. So it is safe for me to assume I have to bring it to a dealer to get this corrected. Anyone know if it is possible to correct this myself please be happy to let me know. My old one had a short in it and it was cheaper to do it myself than pay the deductable and lose the car for a whole day to the dealer. After it was there for two days and all they did was replace a bulb and didn't notice the rest of the cluster had no lights. I check it all out before deciding it was a short not in the wiring and I was right. Thank You

My Instrument cluster as I type this is getting replaced at dealer. They have to burn the mileage into the cluster to read the original mileage, thats what he told me. Thank god I bought extended warranty would have cost $516 for cluster alone.
