ENGINE SHUTOFF 4.7L
Just recently my 2005 ram 4.7l has been shuting off on me in slow stop and go traffic. It has happened twice within two weeks. If I'm going about 5 mph stop and go without giving it gas for a while it shuts off by itself. It starts back up just fine. There are no gauge lights that come on or nothing. It has about 15,000 miles on it. I've had the alternator and battery checked, and they're fine. I called the dealership and they said that other people with the same 4.7l, 2005 models have been having the same problem. The mechanic said they are still waiting on some info to fix the problem. If anybody is having the same problem or knows whats going on please let me know. Thank-You
Sorry Bud. I have heard of this happening with the Hemi's but not the 4.7. Mine has never shut off and I do alot of stop and go driving. Could possibly be a computer issue believe it or not. See if they can run a diagnostic. A Flash of the computer may be able to solve your problem. You got Warranty baby. Use it [sm=gears.gif]
Some guys with 02 rams were posting here with the same problem, they ended up getting the computer flashed. When was your last tune up? Have you checked your plugs? Dirty injectors?
I've got a 2003 Dodge Ram with the 4.7. I have also had the same problem. Happened to me during the summer before I performed a tune up. After replacing the spark plugs, and switching over to full synthetic motor oil I haven't had a problem with the engine dying.
I'm not saying this solution will work for you, just saying that that's all I did and it hasn't stalled since.

I have had a simliar problem where once in a blue moon where I can be making a hard left or right (usually tring to get into a tight parking space) that all of sudden the engine will quit on me and shut off. Like yourself I restart and everything seems to be fine. I too drive stop and go traffic. I have talked to the mechanics and they say it must be a dirty injector or something. In short they give me the standard b.s.
Wish I could be more help, but if you happen to hear anything please let me know.

My 04 4.7 QC 4x4 was doing the same thing without throwing a code. Then it finally threw a code, so I took it in to the dealer. They told me the truck had been in before for a similar problem by the original owner. At that time, the crank sensor was replaced. This time, they called Dodge tech support, and they told them to put in a cam sensor and they did. That was yesterday, so I really havent had enough time to know if it cured the problem. I sure hope so.
edit: Well, after two days with no trouble........it died again today without throwing a code again. This is getting really frustrating. [&o]

possible things to check would be your idler bearing/pulley. but you wont be able to change the fuel filter on an 02 and up because what the dealer told me was that the fuel filter was on top of the gas tank and was part of the fuel pump and the only way to change the fuel filter is to also change the fuel pump also so its probably not worth it unless the warrenty will cover it.
