Default The engines from GM

I think we have all heard a lot about the 2007 Silverado and how it is redesigned, the engines will be refreshed, etc. I've seen some Chevy forums where they are claiming ungodly numbers in the Silverado engine department. Of course it is merely rumor, but you know, I had to investigate. I think the engines offered in the new Silverado will be the exact same offered in the 2007 GMC Yukon/Tahoe. What ever these SUV's have, their pickup counterparts will also carry (although we could see the hp and torque numbers tweaked a little here and there).

In doing some research on GMC.com, I found the engine spec's for the new Yukon.

Option 1 - 4.8L V8, 290 hp, 290 lb-ft torque
Option 2- 5.3L V8, 320 hp, 340 lb-ft torque
Option 3 - 6.0L V8, 355 hp, 375 lb-ft torque
Option 4 - 6.2L V8 (Denali only), 380 hp, 415 lb-ft torque

I was a little surprised that the 6.0L will be rated so close to the Hemi. GM has had 4 years to come up with something better, and thought they'd beat it (they beat horsepower by 10 and matched the torque). 10 horsepower means nothing in reality, but it will let them run commercials stating "The most powerful 1/2 ton on market . . . ." bs we hear. Nothing new.

I won't get into the design of vehicle, because that would take too long a post. But considering everything GM makes - from the Yukon, to the Yukon XL, to the Sierra, looks the same, I think the 07 trucks will look like the SUV's. It doesn't seem like it's changed much - except the headlights, grille, and its more blocky looking (kinda like a Ford Expedition lol).

But if this is the best GM can come up with in the power department, I wouldn't worry for one bit.

The thing about GM is that you can buy your 6.0 one day get a SUPERCHARGER or TURBO installed the next day, have it CUSTOM tuned with a LAP top the day after that and make anywhere from 450HP - 1,000HP on a DYNO by the end of the week.

Unfortunatly us dodge owners may NEVER be able to do that. I have seen my buddy in his Siverado VHO (2x4 6.0L) do just that, hes making over 485HP to the rear wheels with a Magnacharger....

It is not so much what you can do after martket. It is bragging rights for the auto makers. I say aftermarket does not matter because I could take a old Chevette and whip them all with mods. Would it really matter? No.

Srt10 is right, aftermarket doesn't matter, because 95% of us will never roll up to a Silverado with 485 rwhp, or a Ram with a Kenne Bell SC. You might see it at the track, but not on the street. Plus, most people only keep a new vehicle 2 1/2 to 3 years, so they are not going to put that kinda money into something they'll trade. If you do, you're stupid.

Comparing aftermarket "what if's" to what the manufacturers produce isn't an apples to apples comparison. If you want to see who makes the best trucks, engines, etc, pull a stock truck off the lot. When you get into aftermarket performance parts, its not about who made the truck, but how deep your pocket book is.

Well said Srt10.

I do not know about anyone else, but a good engine is a good engine no matter what the make. Don't get me wrong I love my hemi and would not part with it, but the way I look at it is if the competitor brings out something better then my hemi, it actually gets me anxious to see how (or with what) dodge will reply.
