Default Seat Belt Problem

Hey all,

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem.

The passenger side seat belt on my Ram 2500 sometimes locks in place and won't let go unless you unlatch it and let it completely recoil back in. This is really becoming an issue when my wife rides with me as she can't reach the radio controls or even a drink in the cup holder without taking the seatbelt off.

I suspect Dodge did this to accomodate a child seat, but it's very annoying and the dealer where I bought it says that's just the way it is and there's nothing they can do about it.

Anyone know if there is a way to lock out the lock feature????

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks in advance!!

It should be fine. They are supposed to do that incase of an accident so it locks up and the driver won't smash their head on the dash. Also, why would you want your wife to reach the radio controls? Just kiddin'. I don't know if this happens evey single time, but it doesn't happen to much on ours. I don't think I was much help, oh, and welcome to the forums. You can just call me BigRig.

Mine suprises me all the time, usually when I lean foreward to check the mirror to change lanes. I hate it and I think it is fairly unsafe at times. I must admit it kept me from hitting the windshield real well though. I am prety sure it is just real sensitive. On most cars the momentum of the vehicle needs to be moving foreward to get the pendulem to swing and lock the spool out wheeel (when braking or hitting something). Our seatbelts just lock when it persieves that it is spooling out to quickly. Must have a super sensitive brake in there or something. Probably controlled by a computer like everything else in this world or something. I prefer old school inertia myself.

Actually, the drivers side doesn't do this. It's just the passenger side and it does it even when were not moving. She gets in, puts the seat belt on and next thing you know, she's stuck and can't move. Might be some husbands dream!!! All kidding aside though, it really is annoying!

Happens a lot to my wife too. But it is normal, and there is nothing to be done about it... Just tell her to stay back in her seat... Usually it will happen most times when she leans out too much and the seatbelt is fully extended... Then whe she sits back, it starts to lock as the belt pulls back inside the column...

Found this in the article about the Ram Commercial Use 3500 in the article at the front of this website at the top:

Constant Force Retractors (CFR) — Front outboard seat belts include a mechanical device designed to distribute the force of a seat belt according to the load of force exerted on it. CFRs are engineered to force-limit the belt system, and gradually release seat belt webbing in a controlled manner during an impact

I don't believe that is normal, my truck does not do this, it works the same as the driver's side belt. I would check with another dealer as I think you have received the run-around on this.
