Default Lift Kit Brands.

I was wondering what kind of lift kits you all suggest? I am looking mostly for durability. I was told rough country could be installed by yourself without a shop, but I heard it would break if you actually went offroading with it. Most of the "tougher" ones Ive heard about, require welding or cutting, which means I'm going to have to have a mechanic do it, and the shops aorund here change huge ammounts to put them in.

I've heard good things about Fabtech and Rancho. I've never known anyone with Skyjacker, but their 6" kit (with new leaf springs) seems pretty cool. As for Pro Comp, never known anybody with one.

Pro-Comp makes some very nice equipment. My old neighbor had a 6" lift on his CJ and he wheeled it pretty hard without any lift component problems. Now if we talk about panels being replaced and wiring and...that's another story. No problems with the lift though. Rancho makes ok stuff, heard of balljoint problems, but haven't experienced anything first hand.

I can't comment on the ride of lifted Ram's, but I've had a CJ7 with a Super Lift, and a YJ with a ProComp, both were about 4" of lift. The super lift road like a caddy compared to the pro-comp. In my opinion, the Pro-comp is a good quality brand, they just ride too stiff. I would have to say that the rate of the leaf springs on the Pro-Comp is causing the stiff ride. Note: Both were running BFG M/T's (33's). my $.02

RE: Do you actually offroad alot?

the off road i have done with my truck: Sand dunes, Down Washes. Desert, Hard to soft terrain. Fire roads/ washed out fire roads. Mainly is to get to where i ride my dirt bike and a little work out for the truck. No Jamborees or Rock or mountain Climbing. I don't think i'd do that to type of riding in a big truck like mine. So as far as that the truck it rides pretty soft, and thats how i have the adjustable shock set at. I don't consider the Pro-comp Parts to be the weak part of the suspension. they required no welding and the only thing that has happened so for is the steering rack came abit loose, tightened it back up with lock tight and haven't had a problem since. thats pretty much all i can say for the Pro-Comp system.
Good luck on you selection[sm=signs003.gif]

I dont mean to slap anyone in the face or step on anyones hopes and dreams here but pro comp is truly the WORST lift that you can buy for the 3rd Gen rams. They are cheaply built and do not have a good rep in the off-road community. You can contact 4-wheel parts in san diego, the largest off road shop in the state and they will tell you the same thing. I have being doing TONS of research on this because i myself was looking into a lift but i do ALOT of actual off roading, i have a 05 rubicon UL that I usually use but i wanted my ram to be ready as well. This is the order and reason, best to worst.

Fabtech - Used to have a bad rap but truly the best "bolt on" system available for our trucks, even alows you to run stock backspacing wheels unlike any other kit. I would opt for a set of skyjacker rear springs though, i hate blocks!
Skyjacker - Probably the best engineered kit for our trucks, available with full rear springs but pricy and a pain in the *** to put in ( im buying this one)
Rough Country and Rancho are tied - both VERY good kits and very popular and WILL take ALOT of abuse, ive seen alot of trucks with these....rough country is cheap but built VERY well.
Pro Comp- - Good engineering, cheap manufacturing, wouldnt recommend it to anyone!

Their all just a bunch of Brackets and braces, and like i said what will end up breaking will be Tie-rods, Control arms, A-arms, CV shafts or Ball joints, See this all the Time in the Sand dunes/desert Weld&repair shops never have i seen a prettied up I-[sm=insomnia.gif]beam lift broken, but again I'm not always out there.
