Somebody would have to be a mental midget to let their truck drift back too far into the water. I've backed this 02 Ram into several lakes many times and have never seen that before. I put Toyo Open Country AT's on my truck this past winter for scenarios like that though. Throw a few hundred pounds over the back axle in the bed of your truck and add the AT tires and anybody with a 4X2 will be fine. My traction has turned 180 deg since I put these Toyo AT's on the truck, much better! As I said before though, a 4x4 would be nice, but I couldn't pass the deal up on the 2WD and I haven't had any problems with traction, snow, ice, rain, hauling etc..

I have a 4x4 and would not have it any other way. I live in Idaho, so the snow can demand that you use it on occasion, but I have the 4x4 for four wheelin' and camping. I have just always liked the look of a lifted truck over a lowered one. Got to give the little trucks props though, some of them are pretty cool.

My truck is pretty sporty, and I like to go fast... Doesn't mean that it can't be 4x4 as well... The weight difference between 4x4 and 4x2 is only like 200lbs... And it depends what kind of race... What if it's -40 degrees and blizzarding? Who's going to get home faster... Me in my 4x4 or you in your 4x2???
The only problem with 4x4 is you can't drop it...and besides it hardly ever snows in Florida.

My truck is 2wd, because if I got a 4x4 I'd have to lift it and put bigger tires on it, and i can't really afford that...lol...Also, I have a 4-wheeler for hunting and stuff, so I just go as far as I can in the truck, then unload the ATV and go the rest of the way.

Natalie,
I wouldn't worry about it. I live in Ohio and made it through this past winter without a problem with my 4x2. I'm not going to lie, you would be better off with a 4x4 but just throw a couple 50lb bags of sand, salt, or anything else in the bed of your truck above your rear axle and even consider putting some all terrain tires on the truck and you'll be fine. Just be careful on the accelerator when driving on the icy roads! Any pics of your truck?

I just noticed the calendar behind you in the pic.. Go Cats!

I have LINE-X in my bed, it's great. Not all, but most of the good people here will tell you the same. Don't mess with the plastic covers or the "do it yourself" spray applications. Take it to a LINE-X shop and have them do it.. Here's a link to a thread with the same question: https://dodgeforum.com/m_398584/tm.htm

I had 4x4 before and now 4x2. If you live in the area where you need 4x4 or if you off-road, then there is no question. If you don't, then 4x4 has one plus: it sits higher and has 4x4 badge, that's all. It has a bunch of minuses: it's heavier, means less mpg, it gets less power to the wheels, cause it loses some in transfer case, means it's slower, and if you want to do mods to the drivetrain (like gear swap) you have to do and pay twice and take care of two differentials and transfer case.
