Default 06 Exhaust options?

Hey guys, Need some help on 06 exhaust options. I had my performance shop order a borla for me, little did I know that he assumed the 03-05 system would fit my 06. It did not, I now have to start all over again. I have not ruled out using a custom system, but I want to be sure that it will not hinder the performance of my truck. I know now days that these engines are tuned to certian specs in order to keep the EPA happy. I am sure that a suggested muffler from an 05 would do the trick with some custom exit pipes.

Your thoughts?

If you had your heart set on a Borla system, just get one for the 06 (assuming they have one for the 06). Borla makes top notch stuff. Many just want a little louder exhaust and replace the muffler with a brand of choice. Popular ones seem to be Flowmaster, Gibson, Magnaflow, etc. There has got to be 1 million exhaust posts around here to if you want, get a nice cup of coffee and relax for a few days, as that is how long it would take to read them all

As far as which is better, a bolt on or custom made, I really don't think that there is much of a difference. The cat-back systems can be bought for a couple of C notes and bolted up in the driveway. Or you can run down to the local muffler shop and have them A. replace the muffler or B. do a custom set up. Neither is that hard. Just make sure you get good piping material and that you don't open up the pipe size too much or you'll lose too much low end torque.

Do the 06's still have the same 3-inch stainless steel exhaust system?

Yes, I still have the stock system for the truck. I have been calling around all day and no one makes a cat back for the 06 as of yet. Magnaflow will have one out in about a month, but till then there arent any bolt on systems available. The only company that i have found that makes something close is IMCO, they have a setup that can go on my truck, it will just take a few welds to put together.
Or I can always go the route of using a side exit to avoid having the right bends in the pipe to go out the tail end.

Any thoughts on IMCO?

The Mopar accessory catalogue for the '06 Ram has a custom catback exhaust with dual tips. From the catalogue:

DUAL EXHAUST is designed specifically for your Ram to produce optimal performance and sound. Custom exhaust system, from the catalytic converter back, is rigorously tested to meet all emissions requirements and help ensure a long-lasting bright finish.

YA I MADE SAME MISTAKE. BOUGHT CATBACK SYSTEM FOR MY 06 THINKING THEY ARE THE SAME. THE 06 HAVE DIFFERENT HANGER LOCATIONS. EVERYTHING ELSE IS THE SAME. SO I CUT OFF HANGERS ON THE MAGNAFLOW AND WELDED NEW ONES ON THE NEW LOCATIONS . IT CAME OUT GREAT AND SOUNDS GOOD TOO.
