115 MPH is all she had. Whats up with that?
It is always best to learn things for yourself.
Next time you are having a rear wheel dyno run
use chalk to mark 1, 2, 3, 4 marks on both the rear tires and the drum
line those marks up so they match
run your dyno
then walk back to the drum and observe that your marks no longer line up.
AirRam doesn't understand that if his speed is off by a certain %
and his tires slip by a certain % on the drum
then his speedo will match the dyno speedo.
If you have ever spent any time at Bonneville
tire slip is a constant topic of conversation on the salt
and at the Monster Mile in North Carolina they were talking about too.

The ONLY way "YOUR" brilliant idea would work would be if the diameter of the DYNO “DRUM†and the diameter of the tires where the same EXACT diameter. So no mater how many Marks you put on the tire and drum… there is NO WAY they would stay lined up… and they would begin to be off the marks before the first revolution… ALSO at high speed the diameter of the tire changes and gets taller so the diameter on your tires will not allow your idea to work. So I can NOT see how "YOUR" brilliant idea would be of ANY use ... nor do I see where it even relates to the subject of Speed limiter... Again hank, what speed does your 3rd Gen Ram cut out at? Again hank you’r trying to make a subject about speed limiters more complicated than it needs to be.
Also, if you hank have ever spent time at “Bonneville†you would have known the ground is NOT solid and is more like packed sand/salt… perhaps traction / tire slipping issues would be normal on that type of surface and therefore would need addressing.
And again I think you try too hard to make EVERYTHING way to technical in an attempt to look smart.... I’m sure you’r a smart guy... so stop trying so hard and just hang out and participate and stop forcing your opinions on subjects you have little experience with and start sharing your experience that you have learned on your 3rd Gen Ram. Nobody is against you... we are just tired of your nonsense post.
Also, I never disagreed with the speedo being a % off... I just disagreed that it was 12MPH off at 120MPH... to me that was not a tollorence but more of a gross miscalculation. I in no way feel the speedo is 100% accurate... and NEVER claimed it to be... but as long as the tire hights are close to the programed hights it will be MUCH closer and if anything 2-3MPH off at the most.
SPEED SAFE, AIR RAM
I have an '04 1500 with the hemi and a superchips flashpaq. I have Cooper Discoverer ATR tires, 275/55 R20. The flashpaq lets you set the speed limiter to 140 mph, and I think I hit that. My speedometer goes up to 120, and I had it going so fast the needle went down by the gear indicator, and sat on the plastic at the bottom. It felt like it started to cut out, which I think was the limiter. That speed is a little bit of a handful in a truck, but not too bad. Cars going 65 on the interstate look like they are going backwards at that speed.

OK guys, PLEASE be careful at these speeds with these trucks. You are driving a brick and it can and will do a poor imitation of an airplane if some miscalculation is made and now you're going sideways at 100+. Here is a post with an article originally posted by HankL I know we never think that this could happen to us at the time, but it can and does or else I'd never see people in the ER after a MVA.
I'm not trying to be anyone's parent, but I just don't want to read "Dear DF members, it is with our deepest regrets that member XYZ has died tragically in a motor vehicle accident..." That would be a sad day for us DF members. Just use your heads, that is all I ask.
I have a low mileage 04 reg cab shortbed hemi with a K&N drop in and the Superchips FlashPaq. Everything else is stock original including the tires. The truck will go well past the 120 on the speedo and the needle is well above where 130 would be if there were marks for it. I have the speed limiter set to 140 and the redline to 6300 in performance mode.
It takes a long straightaway to get to that speed and it is not safe in a stock truck. It is way beyond the limits of the tires and public highways. If some goober in a Chevette was to not look and change lanes in front of you, either you're gonna kill him/them/you/others or your gonna wreck the truck. If you are gonna go that fast do it somewhere appropriate, get a cage, and proper tires at minimum. I took mine all the way up just to see where it would go once and that was enough. I keep it under 125 and I am going to be going with speed rated tires soon. If you run that fast you will smell the tires getting hot very quickly. It is dangerous. Be careful. I used to scrape people off roads for a living. Now I haul them at high speeds to better hospitals. It doesn't take too much to be convinced to be careful. I love my Job.
Enjoy your trucks and if you see a dark green blur on the highways between WV and NC, That was me ignoring my own advice.
