Default Sluggish at start up....

I noticed the past couple of weeks that when I start the truck after it has sat for a couple hours that it is sluggish to accelerate.

It seems that the engine is running just fine, but I am not getting anywhere very fast. This happens for a block or so and then all is good.

Could this be the start of the infamous 'tranmission' problems that people warned me about?

I really like my truck, but lately it's been killing me...

I love replying to myself!

Anyways, it's like driving with the parking brake on....hate to admit that...

I took it to my neighbor's tranny shop on saturday. He could not communicate with the computer to diagnose the tranny issue. It was weird that he could get all sorts of other info, but not the tranny stuff....

He drove the truck and concluded the tranny has a physical mechanical problem (as opposed to electrical) and said he would rebuild it. He said he thought the valve body was blocked....

If you put it in D, the truck won't take off until about 2000 RPM. It you manually shift from 1,2 and then D, it works OK. That fact led him to beleive it was the valve body...

But he told me to take it to the local dodge dealer b/c it should be under warranty (on 50K miles). He said they will most likely stick in a new tranny as they do not rebuild them at dealerships.

Any hints on what I should say to the dealer in case they try and weasel out of fixing it under warranty...?

I drop it off tonite and should know more on Tuesday...

For sure tell them you have gotten a second opinion from a transmission specialist.

Well to make a long story a little bit shorter, I am getting hosed for $500....

The tranny is going to be overhauled by the dealer.

I am to pay the first $500 of the repair...

It was a real odyssey to get that. First DC thought there was an extended warranty for the truck (which I also thought). DC told me to contact the Dodge dealer that I purchased it from b/c they messed up transferring the warranty.

Well, come to find out, the orig owner cancelled the warranty which is what caused the confusion.

The $500 sucks, but waiting for 2 days to start working on it means that it will not be done until monday!

I am supremely disappointed in DC and this truck.

$1200 in the past 3 months in repairs!

Anyone want to buy it?

Yo Klute.............sorry for the misshaps you've had.
$1200 in three months is a lot to pay out for repairs.
How many miles on that sucker btw?

What tranny do you have and has ever been serviced? Assuming that it isn't the new 545-rfe tranny, did you have the bands adjusted? How many miles when it blew? And most importantly, why would the original owner cancel a warranty that came with the truck free of charge (with the exception of actually buying the truck). Are you sure you're not the 3rd owner?

Just over 49K miles...

I don't know whick tranny it is. (how would I find out?)

I have never had it serviced, it had 28K miles on it when I bought it.

I don't know for sure what the deal with the warranty. From what I have been told my DC, there was a period of time that the 7/100 warranty was not standard on the truck. The orig owner purchased an extended warranty and then cancelled it to get some $ back for the balance of the warranty....

See, when I bought it, the sales and finance guy told me the 7/100 warranty was in effect. They tried to sell me an ext warr and I did not buy one b/c I thought it already had a warranty...so much for trusting car sales people....

At this time I actually do not know for sure, since I can't really trust what I was told when I bought it.

YES, definately get your tranny checked while it is still under warranty...
