Default Water leak or bad design?

With all the rain we had up here in the northeast I been getting water inside my cab under both floor mats. I could hear water sloshing around in the truck when i went around a corner. After about 3 or 4 corners my foot got covered in water. I looked down and saw a stream of water coming out of the air ducts that comes out from the center counsel right next to the gas pedal. One thing I did notice was that I had left the defroster setting on and wonder if that has anything to do with the water getting into the HVAC system. Is that a bad design or do I have a more serious problem? Anyone else have this problem or heard of it?

Does it smell like antifreeze? If so, it is your heater core. Check your antifreeze level pronto.

The only common reported leaks here are from around the passengers side grab handle or the 3rd brake light. To fix the grab handle, you pull back the door gasket and you'll probably notice that the sealer they apply at the factory didn't cover all the way, some silicone and you're good as new. With the 3rd brake light, there is a gasket that goes under the light cover, sometimes it isn't set properly and will leak a little.

Hope this helps.

There is TSB for the driver's side door seal getting caught in the door and ripping. They have a replacement piece that is flat where the rip occurs. You can check that to see if its leaking through the seal. try replicating the problem with a bucket of water.

I just noticed my passenger side grab handle leaking yesterday....thought it might have been my visor. All I have to do is add some silicone to the door gasket?

If you pull off the weather stripping on the door you should see where the roof and the A pillar meet up. It is usually sealed with a body sealer, but a few trucks passed through the factory without being sealed all the way, leading to a small leak at the passengers side grab handle. I'll try to see if I can find some extra information on it.

*EDIT* Here's more specific information.

I had to take my truck in for a leaky drivers side door. They told me it was a bad seal and charged me about $175 to fix it. I bet this is what they did. Is there anyway to get my money back? Or is it just better to thank them for the a$$ raping? It was on my 04 QC.

It could have indeed been your driver's side seal. Here is the TSB regarding the door seal. FWIW, the grab handle leak tends to be on the passenger's side and the door seal problem is typically on the driver's side.

FWIW Dodge has the same problem with leaks around the A pillar grab handle on the Caravan as well. Our '05 had to be taken is to have a leak there fixed. Your warranty should cover it and it takes less than a 1/2 hour. Annoying, yes, but I'd rather have problems like that then major engine/tranny issues any day.
