Truck Dying Help Please
03 QC 4.7. Every now and then when it is first cranked, the damn thing acts like it wants to die (and has once) only when idle. After a few minutes on the road no prob. Have had the alternater checked and it is still good. Dont know whats going on I love the truck and just want to fix it. Thanks for any help you can provide.
possibly the injectors, or maybe fuel pressure regulator.
I had a silverado that would do this occasionally, and it turned out to be a torn diaphragm in the regulator, allowing extra fuel to be sucked into the intake, and flood it out.
I am not sure if dodge uses a similar setup as gm with the fuel reg., but it may be worth checking in to.

The first thing you might want to try is running a GOOD fuel injector cleaner through it. I personally like SeaFoam, but there are others too, such as Mobil 1 techron (?). I have also heard and seen Amzoil works very good. It will most likely take several tanks of gas to accomplish this if they are getting cruded up. I currently put one treatment in whenever I change oil or filter.
You may also want to try using the best gasolines you can find too. There are several out there, Mobil, Philips, Shell...etc.
Hope this helps a little, I'm sure others here on D/F can elaborate more
p.s.---just a word of caution, I have used Berryman /chemtool in the past with great results, but from other forums, I'm hearing that it can be too strong for the delicate sensors that are being used these days, if you opt for Berryman, I strongly suggest you do your research first BEFORE dumping it in-----it may end up costing you more headache and sensors!!!!!!

I'm with Gone Fishin about the Seafoam and Chemtool. Awesome stuff.
Also, how many miles on the truck? Does it fire right up when it dies and you go to crank it again? Do the RPM's slowly drop and eventually cut out or does it idle fine and then just quit? The reason I ask is that if it has higher miles, it is time to clean out the throttle body and the idle air control valve on the throttle body. I like to clean my throttle bodies every 30K miles or so.

I was reading somewhere (?) recently that if you do clean your throttle body, there are two (2) different brake cleaners to use sold by mopar. No others are recommended. I haven't done this yet, but if I can find where I read it, I'll set up a link. I also remember it saying to use a soft brush to help any crud out of the throttle shaft area too. It should be the equivalent of new when your done.
It seems also that they called it out every 30k miles, but I could be wrong about that. One other thing that comes to mind, I remember it saying NOT to flood the throttle shaft with any cleaner, and not to brush or flood any of the sensors, use a soft cloth-----
Damn those things must be delicate!!!!

My 03 4.7 QC did the same thing... Felt like it was running on 4 cylinders. Would stop the first time I got on the throttle. Odd thing was sometimes it would do it at startup, other times under braking. I tried everything... Injector cleaner, drygass, you name it... Dealer reflashed the pcm, stopped doing it for 2 months then started up again... It was one of the main reasons I had for trading up to the 06 Hemi. It didn't do it often, but just enough to be annoying.
