Rear End noise 2002 Ram 1500
I have had a noise coming from the right rear of my 02 1500 and cannot figue out what it is or pin point the exact place where it is coming from other than the right rear. It sounded like a caliper dragging but after checking both rear calipers and making sure the emergency brake is releasing correctly I am at a loss to what it may be. Last week I had the rear end worked on (new pinion bearings and seal) and the shop that worked on it didnt find anything else with it. It only seems to make the noise when putting torque on an incline in both foreward and reverse, but it will not doo it all the time, so it is not a consistant noise. It sounds like a loud rub. Can anyone help me ot does anyone know what could be th couse of my mysetry noise?

I had to have my Driveshaft replaced after a similar problem... I could NOT pin point the sound untill I noticed it got louder and there seemed to be some "DRAG" or "Resistance" with the sound. So I took it to the dealership and sugested they look at the driveshaft... They called me up and tole me it was in fact the driveshaft and they replaced the whole thing. Im not sure if you have the same problem or not but I spent DAYS playing with my brakes trying to pin point the squeel.
Good Luck.

I have also just noticed a noise from the rear end of my 02' 1500. Mine sounds more like a howl though. It only happens when applying light gas and around 35-45 mph. When I let off...the sound stops. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Matt

Remove your rean axle cover and remove the Clutch pack retainer clips...
This is a VERY comon issue that Dodge has chosen to ignore, they are hoping the majority of axles will make it out of warrantee so then they will not have to pay for the damages.
When was the last time you changed your fluid? You may want to change it just for the heck of it ... this way you can take a look for yourself and if it looks ok, at least you will have knocked out your gear lube change for another 30,000 miles.
