Monroe? I think they're ok. I started off trying to go the Bilstien route back in December, but they were having issues getting them made. I waited on the Bilstien's until May...they hoped to have them in production mid June.

I finally couldn't wait any longer....Monroes went on.

Default Go Monotube - Either Bilstein or KYB

Based on my experience I wouldn't install anything but Monotube design, as that's what came with the truck.

Earlier in this post I posted the results after my install of Bilsteins. I'm 100% sold on these, but would accept KYB as a close alternative.

Bilstein "There is nothing, quite literally, nothing like driving a vehicle equipped with Bilstein Shocks. Unbelievable control. Precise handling. Ultimate performance. And incredible comfort."

Go to www.eshocks.com, as it appears that they are available both front and rear as long as you don't have a Mega cab model. Call them if questions, as they're very helpful:
06-08 Ram 1500 - Except MegaCab - 4WD
Mono-Tube Gas Front: BE5-E301-H0 $135.00 $71.96 Mono-Tube Gas Rear: BE5-2550-H1 $135.00 $67.95 Manufacturer / Setting: Bilstein Heavy Duty ($279.82 for a set of 4 shocks/struts) Pictures/More Infomation

No disrespect to anyone else here, but IMHO your typical aftermarket shock brand name commonly referred to earlier in this post will not provide the same value and control as Bilstein/KYB gas charged units.

Good luck....

ProPerDoper,

hard to tell from your sig if you have the 2006 4x4 1500 Quad cab or not.

Bilsteins would have been my first choice, but they weren't available...and may STILL not be available for the 2006 1500 4x4.

The E-Shocks people are very helpful, helpful when I called every 4-6 weeks wondering if Bilstein was going into production with a shock that fit the 2006 1500 4x4...helpful, in that they said "not yet"...maybe in another 6 weeks.

Default Shock

Pro,

Those that you reccomend from e-shocks look different than what my truck came with Mine is a coil over shock/strut design, so are you sure those will work. The other issue is mine doesn't have the traditional eye "o" connector at the bottom they are designed more like a "n" at the bottom.

If I could get one of those others I would, but it appears I am limited by design here.

I have the 2WD 1500.

By the subsequent post and link for Shock Warehouse it appears that Bilstein makes a shock for the 4WD now, however I understand that availability is another issue.

As I stated earlier KYB would be a close second choice for me if Bilstein isn't available.

Its funny to see this thread still active. I posted the original 3 years ago! About a year ago I had a set of Rancho RS9000 XL shocks put on my truck. I like the fact that you can adjust them to taste. I like 6 front and 3 rear. Big improvement from stock.

Some of you guys keep talking about shock and struts as if they are the same darn things......WELL THEY AREN'T!! Beginning in '06 Dodge started putting STRUTS on the front of their 4WD.....Now that's different than the 2WD because all 2 wheels will turn when engaged...Therefore, you need a beefier suspension up front and the "new" strut design stinks! They do not make "shocks" for '06 and up 4WD trucks, they make struts! The 2WD might use a "shock", but there is a huge difference. Ya'll aren't specifying in your writeups what you have and it's confusing people. Some don't have the issues. Maybe that's because they are driving a 2WD and the issue has to do with the 4WD with the POS struts! Good Lord....I'm gonna throw a clot here.....
