Has anyone used the monroe sensatrac strut replacement (pt#71111) on there 1500 4x4 yet and were they an improvement to factory junk we paid for? ( my rig 06 1500 4x4 big horn with 20"'s) I just ordered the afore mentioned and hope its helps with a couple issues i belive to be related to weak struts from factory. Also putting the revtek leveling kit on (spacers) at the same time.

I called Bilstein about the shocks for the 2007 1500 IFS 4x4 in early December 2008. Supposed to be out of production and shipped to distribution on Jan 9, 2009. So I ordered through E-shocks.com.

Jan. 9 came and went. Called E-Shocks, who called Bilstein. New production date of March 1, 2009.

We'll see in a couple of days.

Default Monroe Sensatrac #71111

I had the shop replace my bad dodge struts with the monroe's and do a 2.5" lift on my 06 4 X 4 QC. Huge difference!! While it's not the off road stiff ride alot of guys look for, it is a good smooth ride and no more hard hits when going through dips, etc. Plus, both of my OEM dodge struts were already blown out and leaking so I didn't have a choice.....But they are also lifetime struts, so if you break one take it back and have them replace it.....

My 2006 1500 4x4 QC also handles like a yak in heat. I had one front shock replaced while it was still under warranty (which helped a bit) and I now suspect the other one has gone south. I'm looking for something a bit stiffer than stock, or adjustable so I'm curious to know if anyone's received their Bilsteins yet?

Sorry if I'm repeating myself, (haven't checked in for awhile) but although mine's a 2 wheel drive, I installed the Bilsteins all around, along with a Hellwig rear sway bar and a Belltech 1.25" rear drop shackle kit, and the truck handles like a completely different animal. (Not a Yak.... :-)

I can't recommend the Bilstein product highly enough, and likely worth the wait if not yet available.

(Having said that, KYB puts out a good product also)

Default Shocks or Struts Confusing

Ok,

I have had my 2006 Ram 1500 4x4; Quad Cab, V8, 5.7L for a little under 1 week now, and low and behold I discover a blown Passenger front Strut/Shock (The rod is pushed up into the fender well plastic) Not sure if it existed before I bought it or not but it is there for sure now.

So, I called around t 5 different Tire/Repair shops and got 5 different answers. You have shocks, you have struts, You have shocks and they are on National Back order, We dont know, and bring it in and we will tell you.......IM Confused!!!!

I just want to get this fixed! I believe the truck has struts since the bottom connection is forked or an "n" shape. Since I bought this used I'm not 100% sure if the truck was raised/lowered (Although I'm 95% sure it hasen't, its pretty level with it's 20'' tires)

So what do I have Coil over shock? Coil over strut? and if so what are your reccomendations for replacement parts, Dont want to spend a ton, mostly street driving and dirt road, but I do not want factory/dealer quality either. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Part #'s a plus.

The latest mechanic told me to order Honcho RS5788's, but after my own research it does not have the same bottom connection.

I am positive that it has struts on it!! I had mine replace in Feb with Monroe Struts. They are a coil over strut. They sell for about 90 bucks each(I think). Both of my struts were shot when I purchased my 4X4 Quad and I took it to a FRONT END SPECIALTY SHOP. Yea, it cost a little more, but when it comes to the safety and driveability of my truck, I always go to a specialty shop. Lastly, if you purchased the vehicle from a dealer, TAKE IT RIGHT BACK TO THEM AND HAVE THEM REPAIR IT. Most dealers have a 30 day/1000 mile warranty on their vehicles. This is also a safety issue. When I bought mine it had bad tie rod ends that I noticed a few days after I bought it and I took it back the dealer. I threatened to call the attorney general on them and they put new tie rods on it for me. Did a rotten front end alignment, but I got the free tie rods out of him installed..........Don't take nothing lying down!!

Thank You for the help. I have already talked to two dealers the one I bought it from and another, I did get a 2 month 2k mile warrenty, but it's limited to 50%/50% and only covers major engine, drive train systems. Not to mention suppodesly the OEM versions are on National back order for about 500 units or 30+ weeks (heard rumor of Chrysler owing OEM manufacturer of the struts). So since the dealer I bought it from is about an hour and a half away, and I would prefer better quality, I think I am going to purchase the struts myself, since even with my 50% deal I was going to be charged about $300 anyways.

I am thinking i will go with the Monroes (Dont seem to have much choice).
