power wire?
ORIGINAL: HemiBuell
So this is the modern version of turning your distributor till the motor pings or misses then bringing it back 2 degrees or run better gas.
When I used to do this on my old carb Chevy's I always had to bring it back during the hot weather or when I towed a heavy trailer.
Does the computer still compensate for the temperature correctly? Will the power wire have to be removed when it reaches 100 degrees here? What about gas, I run 87 without a problem will I have to run better gas?
I also have to throw in an opinion. I tow a massive boat, my suspension is the limiting factor, not the power of the hemi. Does anybody here really need more power? Or maybe I'm just getting old and conservative.

The Air Temp Sensor still works as advertised and adjust to the intake air temps... the POWER WIRE just alters the signal to read 20 degrees cooler at ALL TIMES. So if your sensor is reading 80 degrees then PW tells the PCM The Intake Air temps are 60 degrees... if you drive into a tunnle and go from 80 degrees to 67 degrees then the POWER WIRE will tell the PCM the Intake air temps are... 47 degrees... the PCM will ALWAYS get a reading 20 degrees cooler than actual. Your sensor works as advertised... so does your PCM... The POWER WIRE just alters the signal.
What you get is 8-10 HP throughout the RPM range.

I have the same questions as HemiBuell, pre-ignition would be bad, and would I have to spend more money on higher octane gas?
Thanks in advance for your replies

Your PCM will protect your engine from preignition and If peignition was detected the PCM would retard the timing. This is why its a good idea to reset your PCM every so often reguardless if you have any mods or not. I reset mine every oil change and have done so since the first 500 miles.
If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact me.

I have a Superchips Flashpaq installed. Can I still use the power wire, or does the Flashpaq already advance the timing to the max? I would assume the 2 are not compatible, but want to know if anyone knows for sure. Also, with the Flashpaq, should I look into a cooler than factory thermostat?

If you use both together I sugest you use 91 octane to be on the safe side.
The POWER WIRE is a mod that was intended to be an inexpensive way to advance your timing for your stock PCM engine. It does work great with the stock PCM and has been proven to add 8-10HP when used with the stock PCM.

Hey Air Ram,
How would you go about testing that? I have an 04 hemi ram and the superchips flashpaq. The rest of the truck is all stock except a K&N drop in (We talked about that before - I'm just runnin it till I can afford your CAI). If there was some sort of easy way to test this like with a multimeter or something, I would be glad to do it and share the info with you. Just send me a Power Wire and instructions on what to measure and I'll do it.

Purchased a Power Wire Last week and installed it a couple of days ago. I couldnt believe the difference. Definate power increase. Havent had any problems.
