question for dodge owners..
i want to get a dodge ram..2002+ i dont know how the gas is with them and everything..ive been told from a few people that they are gas guzzlers..but i was thinking of maybe just buying a v6..cuz im not gonna do much towing or pulling or offroading..i just like the look of the truck. id get a v8 if i could afford the gas but living in texas, and driving as far as i do for work..im not sure if its a good idea to get a v8. can anyone help me out by informing me on the differences in the mpg's on the different 2002+ rams.
My 04 5.7 hemi has been getting about 15 mpg but i do drive alot in the city. have not went on no trips yet so don't know what hiway MPG will be. I could get better city MPG but I have a heavy foot. But with all that power its hard not to have one .
well i drive alot of highway miles..are the 4.7's pretty powerful..and are they gas guzzlers too..i may end up just getting a v6 since im broke and need a new car..but cant afford a **** load of gas.
I know what you saying.. I mostly drive my 95 mirge all week use the truck to pull the boat on weekends. That way money I save durring week buys gas for the boat. If i had to drive truck too and from work i would be broke fast...

Bottom line, if you want a Ram and you want the look.....I'd say go for the diesel. You'll see more realistic gas mileage savings in it then you would in a V6...

The diesels are a bit more expensive, but they also keep their resale value alot better then normal trucks. These trucks have been known to last 250-350,000 miles or better because the motor is designed for that kind of driving. It's great on a open highway.
As for the MPG.....there are diesel owners on this forum who see between 17-22mpg in their 6500-7500lbs trucks.....and thats great. If you want more information on a diesel, I suggest you ask about it in the Diesel section here in the Ram area. Drew, the diesel god, can answer your questions better then I can....

For whatever it's worth in regards to the diesels, on an '06 quad cab 2500 CTD I'm averaging +/- 19mpg with 13K on it. That's up from the 15 on the first tank off the lot when it only had 9 miles...
Listen to the Reject,
I get about 15-17 mpg, never reached 19 or 21 like it said on the damn sticker. It is a heavy truck for a small V6. Ford makes V6 but they are 4.2L not 3.7L. If I had to do it again, I would get a V8 4.7L, its only $800 more and spends the same amount of gas. You get a somewhat stronger truck (20 more horses and 75 more torque) and I am sure the sound would be better with an aftermarket muffler.
I drive to work, back and forth, about 50-60 miles for 5 days. On the 6th or 7th day I have fill it up again. Do your research. I love the way the truck looks, thats one of the reasons I went with Dodge. Trust me. I know, I have a V6 and the only reason I bought it, it was because I thought like you.
But also take into consideration maintenance. She is high maintenance. I have to service her rear
every 15000 miles. Ford is every 100,000. Change oil every 3000, Tune up every 30 or 36000. Ford is 5000 for oil, tune up every 80000. So do yer math and make the right decision if you want to save money. Dont get me wrong people, before you go out and lynch me, I love my truck and I thank God I can afford to maintain it. But if I had no money and needed a truck I would take all that into consideration.
