Default TPS bad?

2002 RAM 1500 WITH 4.7 When I am at idle at a stop my engine hunts. Rpm's go up and down from about 500 to 850. Also when at hwy speed it seems to jump out of final lockup. Rpms jump up and down about 200 rpms. Is this the Throttle Position Sensor or something else? Thanks

Chances are, that if the TPS is acting up, you would throw a code. I'd be more inclined to think that the throttle body is in need of cleaning, or possibly a general tune-up. Plugs, possibly wires, injector cleaner, throttle body cleaning. Start here first, if it continues, there may actually be a problem.

It was the TPS. $80 dollars later and about 10 min work and everything back to normal. No check engine light during this problem!
