Homemade nerf bars!
I made these nerf bars in the garage.
Made from 2" drill stem pipe and 90 degree elbows,
with expanded metal and 3/8" round bar.
Definetly HEAVY and overbuilt, but had the steel onhand.
Had em powder coated here in phoenix for $70
Let me know what ya think.

Well, I'll admit that I was expecting to see a train wreck when I clicked on the photos but those are damn sharp! Personally, I would have went with 3" tube but like you said, you had the steel onhand! I got a hell of a deal on my 3" tubes. I think I paid just under $300 for them. Would have paid more to have them installed (close to $450) but I installed them myself. Always looking to save cash.
I definitely like those though, very original and you only have $70 in them!

Wow, I like those A LOT! You should build some more and market them! Only thing I see that may be a problem is that the grating might get a little slick when wet or muddy. A little grip tape and an exacto knife will take care of that, though! Very cool. I like them. Can you take more pics of a full profile of the truck? How far do they stick out on the sides?
Hey thanks guys!
Really appreciate the positive feedback. Very cool of you.
Had to laugh at the trainwreck comment, my neighbor
down the street built a grill guard and theres not a straight line on it.
Anyways, yeah i looked at the 3" and would have been cool too, maybe next time i will try the 3".
Chet, i didnt want them to stick out very far, maybe 1.5" gap, but when the door is opened
there seems to be plenty of room to get a foot on. I am 6'4 and dont really need em , actually
will probably never use mine, but my wife is 4'9". She is the one who wanted them.
It got dark on me tonight, so i will take a few more pics tomorrow.
Good idea with the grip tape, might need to try that.
Thanks again guys for the comments

dude, those running boards are clean! If you had made another set for me i would have paid $150 for them, that could make you a very nice little profit if you were able to sell them to more than just one person. Grip tape is cheap also, any local skaeboarding shop has it for cheap because you cant buy a board without tape. It will run you about $5.00 but the problem with that is that grip tape doesnt react well with water so the rain would screw it up. Maybe some type of Gortex or something would work well. Maybe if it sprayed on? I'm sure any type of Outdoor equipment store such as REI (Do you have that where you live?) or maybe even Sun & Ski Sports or Acadamy would have something like that. What do you think about my idea? I hope it works.
Kudos on those boards man, they're awesome!

Thanks fellas!
I really appreciate the possitive feedback.
I am not too worried about slippage, the expanded metal
is a bit sharp, and grabs the foot pretty well.
I suppose it could get caked with snow and ice and be a problem,
but hey i live in phoneix (what is snow?).
A friend of mine had a cool idea, have them sprayed with
rhyno liner material, like the sprayed in bed liners are done with.
Might look cool as well. And definetly no problem with slipping.
I would like to make more, but figuring the cost of steel, labor,
and powdercoat, i dont think i can compete with the off the shelf brands.
Thanks again for the kind words.
