Truck wants to die...dont let it
I have a 03 QC RAM to start. After the truck has been off for a while (hours) When i first crank it and come to a complete stop early, like out of a parking lot or something, the truck wants to die. RPM's drop to like 400, lights start flickering and all. But after i drive a few miles it will not do it again, and does not do it if i have my foot on the gas partially when stopped. Whats going on
watch your battery voltage. you may have a weak alternator that is choking the engine to death. it sounds to me like you have a weak voltage reading somewhere or some kind of a wiring harness problem or something. good luck dude, i hope this helps.
My guess is an old battery. They ony last about 3 years anyhow. When you step on the gas, it allows the alternator to speed up and your problem goes away. That is why the alternator checked out ok. It needs revs to put out peak amperage. When you rev the motor, the alternator overcomes the weak battery.
Id say the battery's more than likely the problem. Either that or retace your battery cables and see if somehow they have melted down to bare wire or if they are burnt and arching, that'll do it too.......I hate electrical problems......

I now have the same problem after the install of the smt-6.
I have an 04 made in late 03.
When my right foot is off of the throttle and lightly touching the brake at low mph, the rpm will surge up and down and sometimes go so low that it stalls.
If my foot is very lightly on the throttle and in cruising, not problems.
I figured it has something to do with the smt unit.
Now I got to check my voltage when that happens. But it only started after the smt install so I never thought about the voltage.
My charge meter reads fine all the time, so I don't think that is it, but.............
