Default 4.56 gears

I was wanting to put new gears in my truck, but every place I talk wants to charge about 1000 dollars in labor. I can get the parts for couple hundred bucks though. How hard would it be to do it myself?

Talk to Air Ram, the guy is a freakin genius when it comes to this stuff. He has them on his truck but I wouldnt recommend doing it yourself, they're a pain in the *** when it comes to draining fluid, removing the gears, installing, etc.[:'(] Anyway man, I hope this helps.

That labor is a little high even for a 4wd.

You really have to have all the right tools and experience to change the gears in our diffs.

Take it to a pro.

That price was only for the rear axle since it is only 2wd.

Shop around for the install if 1000 is to high for you but just relize that what your asking them to do is a major part of your truck and if you/they do a half assed job your SOL! Plus you also Have to take in consideration how long something like that can take to get it perfectly installed correct. Most mechanics around hear charge between 50-75 an hour in labor depending on the project like that. I know its a complete ripp off but thats how you gotta look at something like this though. Personally I would let a good shop install them

Install for my rear was $300. I supplied the gears and full install kit.

While we're on the topic of 4.56 gears.... does anyone know the engine RPM's are at 70mph with 35x12.50x17's??? I'm looking at putting 4.56's in mine with that size tire. After seeing the RPM's in a Power Wagon with 33's and 4.56's; 35's and 4.56 gears couldn't be any worse.

Rear Gear x Transmission Overdrive ratio = overall gear ratio

SPEED x OVERALL GEAR RATIO x 336 / tire hight = RPM

SPEED SAFE, AIR RAM

I have 4.10 gears in my 2500 with a 5 speed manual and it could use a 6 speed. I can't imagine having 4.56. Mine is running about 2500 @ 75 mph. I have 35x12.50x18
