RE: Speed Restrictor??
Arent the stock tires only suppose to be rated for up to 110mph? Well I dont worry bout that I went and put on some Nittos that are rated for up wards of a 150-160mph. Granit Ill never take it that high ever but it makes my truck handle so much nicer that the stock tires

Well I don't NEED to drive 105 or 115 for that matter BUT it is nice to know it's there, my dad's ranger cuts off at 95 MPH, I was just wondering if this was normal is all, the "chick" at the dealer wasn't sure when I called back. I'm familiar with rev limiters on my ATV's but this is the first time I experienced one in a car/truck, my Saturn tops out at 110 (with room to grow too lol). Is it triggered by RPM's or speed?
My dad says there is no way around it but these chips they sell look like one way but with my truck still under warranty I can't alter it anyway. Besides, I remember my grandfather telling that if you want something to last a long time to leave it stock, "once you start monkeying around with stuff you'll start having more problems, the factory engineers design these vehicles to work a certain way and you'll get more life from it" is what he told me.

The computer pulls the timing back. To me, it feels like it is hitting a brick wall when it hits the limiter. The Superchips Flashpaq gets rid of this timing "adjustment."
As for lasting a long time, I doubt minor bolt ons will bring an early demise to the motor. Now, once you start adding boost, NO2, and other major bolt ons, yes, I agree with your grandfather. I have not added any drivetrain modifications to my truck. I did that on my last 2 trucks and decided that I wouldn't "waste" the money on something that might give me a few more HP or .1s faster 1/4 mile times, etc. I have to save for other things right now.

RE: Speed Restrictor??
Well technacally that really isnt true as far as the warranty issues cause Im in the same boat, I want to mod some stuff but I dont want to loose the warranties but then I found out that it is against federal law for any dealership/warranty place to void your warranty for any after market mods you may have done to your truck/car. They litterally have to prove that it was ONLY the sftermarkets mod that caused the specific Item to fail or go bad which is next to impossible to do (unless it blows from adding a turbo/supercharger on it) and then they have to put it in writing saing why it voided your warranty. And if they take it that far then all you have to do is send a copy of the paper they gave you saying why it wasnt covered to Chrystler and they will take care of it. Basically they cant denie you of your warranty unless they can prove the mod caused it.
As for leaving it stock to make it last longer I dont belive in that at all, I consider the stock look to be the base model that the dealership can put out, and the base model of anything is rarely the best. Mods basically make the truck all around perform better and handle better. But to each his own, I know alot of guys who like to keep things stock and there is nothing wrong with that either.

RE: Speed Restrictor??
Well with the superchip you change your truck back to stock programming in about 10minutes before you take it to a dealer. >>>>>>
Ok, can someone tell me exactly how these chips work? I didn't notice how many RPMs I was at @ 105 but would it kick in say at like 75 if you were under a heavy load?

RE: Speed Restrictor??
It's a speed limiter, not a load or RPM limiter (but there is one of those too). The Superchips programmer isn't an actual chip, it reprograms your engine computer, saving the factory program in the programmer. You can adjust top end, RPM limit, tire size for the speedo and 3 different tune levels (87 octane, 91 octane, 91 octane towing). The high octane program is fun hehe. There is also one from Hypertech, but it doesn't do as much.
