That's the only way I car shop. We will take an old ragged car in and wear old ripped up clothes and then leisurely walk around the lot without any harassment shopping for what we want. We then approach a salesman and just "ask numbers because one day when we can afford it..........". After we get numbers, we come back with the trade and slap them with the letter from our credit union.

It's the only way to shop!!

Generally when I'm approached I'm very upfront that "I'm just browsing but if I need any help I'll be sure to let you know" usually they step back and give you some breathing room, if this is the case I'll keep looking and probably even engage in some conversation........HOWEVER, if they get in my face right away and won't back off I'll probably just check on some prices and leave.

Last year I was looking at some used Saturns in Roseville they had on their website(but no prices, go figure) well I cross referenced their used cars with another dealer for similar cars to establish a price in my head. When I got to Saturn of Roseville for starters the sales lady was nearly at my door before I even got out, she asked if I needed help, told her I was just browsing but I did notice there were no prices on the used cars so I asked "is there a way to tell the price or do I have to ask for help for each car" (they do this to force you to engage with their sales people) after she showed me the "secret code" for figuring out the price I realized they were $3-$4,000 MORE then the other dealer and their used cars were priced just below the new ones. I mean a used car with 20,000 miles they wanted $1500 less then a new one, I didn't even bother to waste my time with this nonsense and left. I e-mailed them the next day and the guy was very candid in that he was new to the internet sales and didn't necessarily agree with their pricing but understood my concerns, within a few months they went to no haggle everyday low pricing on used cars and imagine this, the prices dropped on their used cars.

You gotta remember, these sales people are just doing their jobs and if they show you alittle respect and patience at least be cordial. Not all sales people are extremely pushy and rude, IF I ever feel they are being pushy or rude I walk away immediately and tell them straight up I dont appreciate their attitude.
