Default RE: CB placement

now that its light out I can take a few pictures,

This is my Uniden CB radio. I modded a cell phone car charger to work as a power plug. No wires to solder and removes easy as anything. Just plug it into my power outlet on the bottom of my center console and im good to go.

Here is it mounted up under my dash. It has the bracket screwed into that plate there. So I can just take my CB out whenever I want and its no problem.

Here where I mounted my antenna. The Coaxial wire was a B***H to get to and tighten seeing theres only about an inch or 2 of space to get your fingers back there. But the little chrome nipple doesnt really ruin the look of the truck. Its small and clean so I can even run the truck without the antenna and it still looks good. I ran the wire under the truck and to the firewall. And fed it through the little rubber gasket on the lower part drivers side of the firewall.

Hope my setup helps you with yours!

max00racer- thats exactly how i mounted mine. except i hace a cobra 25 classic, so its a little bulkier about the size of an aftermarket head unit, plus its probably almost 20 years old. still work perfectly, thats how grandad kept his things. i've got two antennae one mounted on each front corner of the bed on the front part of the box. i have no digital camera so i cannot post pics tho. neat trick on getting power to it.

rkellen... Since your cobra only has one final in it you are probably hurting yourself by running two antennae. That type of setup is best for the big Gallaxy radios or something with a kicker on it. If it is looks your after just dummy one of those up for best performance. Just a little knowledge I thought I'd pass a;ong rom my years of working with CB's.

well grandad ran it in his chevy with 2 antennae for as long as ive been around and thats how it was given to me so......thanks for the tip, i really dont know anything about CB or how to get the best performance out of it. the antenna wire is two wires all the way back to the unit, if i unhook one antenna will i have to get a new cable(single instead of dual) to get good performance? im not in it for looks, ive just always been a fan, and i enjoy having a PA on my truck.....heeeeey girl! LOL P.S. how/where do i get an amplifier for better range like all these sights talk about? i know its taboo by FCC tho. just a thought.

Try your truck stops for starters. The best way to go is to go to a cb shop because if you go with a kicker you will want to have your radio tuned to it or something WILL blow. I'm not real familiar with NC so I can't give you a recomendation on who to go to. I would do a lot of research on any shop I went to before I spent any big bucks because there are those out there that will ruin a good cb. I had one fixed fo $50 at a shop in Little Rock and had to go down the road and spend another $50 to get what the idiot messed up fixed. Strt with a peak and tune if you are unfamiliar with their work. That will give you an idea if they know what they are doing or not. Have a friend do a before and after comparison to see if they did any good or harm or if they just took your money. I run a Cobra 29 Classic and my trick is to go in and ask them to put a Gallaxy 88 final in it. If they agree I take my radio back because they both use the same final but most poeple think the 88 is a bigger one. As far as antenea think of it as a water gun. if you have one nozle you can shoot 20 ft. But if you take the same gun and add another nozle but no more power you may do a better job soaking the imediate area but at the sacrifice of range. You won't hurt a small radio with 2 antenae but you will hurt a big one with one.
