CB placement
anyone have a CB radio in their truck? My grandfather gave me his, but i dont knoiw where to put it. i was thinking on the dash but thats a little bulky, and cant put it on the ceiling b/c of the overhead comp. i do travel a lot between NC and PA so i wouldnt mind having one. i just dont want to look like one of those fratnecks that have a CB but dont know what channel to put it on and have 15' whip antennas so their trucks look like bumper cars. i just dont know where to put the damn thing. any ideas or where have yall put yours?
alright.....i put it under the dash just to the right of the steering wheel, nothing gets in the way, i can see it easily my keys dont hit it. the only prob. is if i need to access under the steering wheel i need to take it off, but thats very minor. ive mounted the mic onto a space right above the ashtray, next to the little cubbyhole. i was suprised how god it fits, its a cobra 25 classic, my legs dont even come close to hitting, and i'm 6'4". i also like how there is a bolt-off hole through the firewall, for the power and antennae.
Make a bracket for one of the stake pockets. Make an L bracket and mount it under the stake pocket. Run the antenna through the stake pocket. Surely there's an unused rubber grommet going into the cab you can use for the coax.

I put my CB in the space below the air controls. The power cord connects to the cig lighter which is always on. The coax runs out by the brake cable and I have my antenna mounted on the corner next to the driver's side of the bed. The CB just slips right in after you remove the rubber mat in there. I have a Uniden with the weather and front speaker.
If your truck is a single cab, you can pass your coax through a grommet below the storage tray behind the seats on the passenger side. Just take the screws out of the tray, lift it out and you will see the grommet. If you lay on the ground and look up at the bottom of the cab, there is a channel with a hole in it. You can see the grommet through the hole. Push it through into the cab, poke a hole in the grommet, then slide it over your coax and pop it back in. Re-install the tray. It's a shorter run of coax and no drilling is necessary.
I run a full size export radio and I have it sitting in the tray behind the passenger seat on a set of angled hump mount brackets. It is easily reached and seen for use. It keeps it out of sight of thieves when I don't need it. You may want to consider that living in Wilmington.
I used a Firestick offset stake hole pocket mount. It mounts in the pocket but puts the antenna outboard of the bed to clear my bed cover.
Works great.
Good Luck.

I did a pretty neat job on my ram. Mounted it under the dash to the right of the steering wheel. And put the mic mount on the CB itself. It works out without interfering with anything. I drilled a 3/8th hole on the front of my bed rail by the cab on the passenger side. and have a 4ft fiberglass antenna. Its too dark to take a picture right now but it works out nicely.
