New Respect
I have driven every year of the Viper and every body style and model of them since they came out in '92 so I was just curious whether or not you had actually driven any since most people make comments like that without being truely informed. I agree, I have driven a couple of Z06's and I like some of the features they have and all and the price is somewhat less than the Viper BUT I also dont like all that extra crap that you find on the Vettes either. After all find me a Ferrari or Lambo that has much if anything more than the Viper comes standard with... there's a reason for that, enthusiast drivers like me dont really want or need that stuff to make me feel "comfortable". Hell I didnt even care back in '92-96 that I looked like I was stealing a car just to get into a Viper or that it had about as much comfort as a bright red go-kart with 400Hp. It was and still is a *****-to-the-wall machine designed for getting your adrenaline rushing all the while leaving you just on the edge of feeling like you still have control(if you can actually drive that is). This is where the vette lacks although has gotten better just since Lutz went over the GM. On the other hand if your looking for a car that you can drive to work everyday then a vette is of course the better choice, the Viper is a weekend car much like a Ferrari would be... this is the difference between an exotic and a sports car. Even though the stats are similar it still doesnt put the 2 into the same category after all Chevy has had the last 50 years to get the vette to where it is and so far Dodge has only 15 years invested in the Viper program. And as I remember busted the vettes ***** the very first year and the next and the next and the next and the next... well you get the idea.
Oh I agree that the viper is most definately a weekenders car. I think almost everyone has that one vehicle that they will only drive on the weekends for fun. I know I have my 67' Chevy pickup I just got finished restoring that I will only drive on the weekends for fun. Its has none of the comforts like my Ram has and isnt as smooth of a ride but it does have a newly built and tuned supercharged 454 under the hood of this half ton truck which has been an on going project for the last 3yrs. I built this thing purely for power not comfort so I do understand where you are coming from. But with that said I dont look at just the power when it comes down to finding an all around great vehicle. I mean the addrenaline rush is a big part of that but at the same time I also look at the comfort and practicality of it too. You wont see me driving my 67' every day because of the little things such as it only gets 8mpg has no air and has a stiff suspension. Its all personal taste but to me that C6 knocked the crap out of everything I've driven so far as being a truely well built, fast, powerful, perfectly handling, comfortable vehicle that I can easily see driving every day.
Sounds like you had a blast. Gotta love Vegas!!! I traded in my '04 GTO for the Ram 1500. I had upgraded the suspension and had a few engine mods. I loved that car, but wanted a truck again. It was great for autocrossing (even though it was heavy), had an incredibly sweet interior and was IMO and many others that saw it up close a good looking vehicle but had no room to carry the stuff I wanted to carry. As for the person saying a Cobra will eat the GTO alive or that they are ugly, I have two things to say. I never had a problem running against a Cobra EVER. I love the Cobras too, but they aren't GTO killers by any means. The second point I have is that the looks of a vehicle are in the eye of the beholder. It wasn't to long ago that people were saying our beloved Rams were ugly too (and some people still do). My $.02.
