Default full synthetic

Is there a such thing as putting full sythetic oil in your truck too early? A guy here at work said if I put it in with only 2000 miles on it I could hurt the motor which doesnt make much sense to me. When it is time for an oil change I am wanting to switch to mobile 1 full syn. I ran it in my f150 for some reason it seemed like it got much better gas mileage.

Don't you just love those "people at work" or a "guy you ran into" who seem to know everything there is to know on any subject at any moment in time? At your first oil change, make the switch. You'll be fine.

I been told you need the motor to break in first before you put in oil addtive or synthetic oils it seems to me you could put in synthetic oil after 2000 mile you valve and rings should already have there wear pattren in them by now.

The reason lot of peolpe wait untill they get some more miles on the motor is Synthetic's or good oil addtives basicly stop all wear so if you put it in to soon you motor will take a very long time to break in a seat on you'r Bearings, Piston Valves you want the motor to get a good wear pattren in it like finger prints they all are diffrent but you going to look hard and messure to see where the pattren is.

I going to go with Synthetic oil after I hit 6000 mile mark I have 1000 now most likly Mobil one my self I prefer AMS Oil but Mobil One is easyer to get you hands on..

I work on aircraft for a living they run Synthentics in them for a reason they break down less make you parts last longer ect If they didn't not do this the companies would put cheep bean oil in them if they could anything to save a buck here and there, It's cost them less money in thje long run to run Synthetic less break down last longer better milage, ect.

You can change it as soon as you get it home if you want. The wait issue is an urban legand. Many new vehicles are coming from the factory with synthetic oil.

Sorry, but this has not been true for about the last 20 - 30 years now. Modern vehicles do not "break-in" as you describe. Old manufacturing tolerances were inexact so they made new motors extra tight and let the parts wear in. With today's exacting manufacturing tolerances this is no longer the case.

The break in miles is either 300 or 500, do not recall. First oil change is 3K. So do it. I did.

Also consider, many high end cars, even the SRT-10 Ram comes with Synthetic from the factory.

Whoever told you that doesn't know what they're talking about. As mentioned, just switch over at the first oil change. I waited to hit 15K that way it would be easy to remember the 5K mileage change schedule that I'm on....15K, 20K, 25K, etc.

Also, the debate on which is the best will go on forever. Personally, I like Mobil 1 and find it locally for relatively cheap. The 5qt wally world special is around $22 so that makes it easy for me to decide which oil to use.

Just a quick suggestion if your going synthetic try Royal Purple oil you spend the duckets but I think they are worth it. Unfortunately the people at Royal Purple still do not make the Transmission fluid we need(automatics) but still it's good stuff. I live by it. Again just a suggestion. Take care and good luck. Go Red Sox!!!
