5.7 vs 5.4vs 5.3
so i dont know if this has been answered yet but wht do u guys think bout these three engines. now i want u to think honestly not just root for dodge if dodge fan and so on i dont want to listen to ur choice jsut cause of wht u like better no favorites here . so to get on with it now. To start out which engine do u think is the best for racing 1/4 or just racin round town and showin off? or another question would be which one would best be used for towing and a everyday wrk truck? another thing to ask is which engine gets the most miles out of it or worth the most for ur money?
thanks
all these engines would be a 2006 model

Hemi02 I really don't even know where to start with that one. I would seriously go back and attempt to edit your post for spelling and grammar, because, seriously I can't make head or tail about what you wrote.
The engines are the dodge hemi, ford 5.4 triton, and 5.3 chevy? I think he's asking 1) what is quickest, 2)what tows best and 3) which one has the longest life as far as mileage goes. I'm pretty sure you're going to get the 5.7 as your answer for 1 and 2 from most people. Not sure about 3.
5.3 (327) for reliabilty and aftermarket support (you know you can put a zo6 head and cam on that thing right?... and do not even get me started on LS1 edit and magnachargers and...), 5.3 for output, and 5.3 for towing (again that has more to do with relability and ease of adaption).
Here is the thing... the 5.7 is a new engine... came out in 2002. The 5.3 and the 5.4 are way older. The 5.3 is a slightly smaller iron block LS1 which came out in corvette in 1996. The 5.4 is a bored and stroked 4.6 mod motor that came out in the crown vic in 92 or 93. The dodge is also the largest of the three trucks so is at a disadvantage there. Now IMHO the dodge looks the best, and if you are into that kind of thing it will probably do the best burnouts...plus with the right exhaust it is hard to beat a pushrod v-8 so thehemi and 327 are up there.
Agian if you really want to build something up there is little to beat the other two motors... I mean they are esentially the camaro and mustang motor for the last decade plus and have had billions in aftermarket r and d thrown at them. The heni is brand new and is a mother* to mod from an electronics point of view... hell the most advanced magazine add on tuning I have seen ( in hot rod I belive, it was primarily focussed on intakes) ended up using a ford computer to run the motor because even t he suppiosedly unlocked Mopar chip was still limiting the motor to something like 360 HP (this is from memory, not positive about the HP numbers).
So stock for stock, you will probablly out run a 5.4, especially on the low end, run with a 5.3 especially on the top end (depending on cab bed length yadda yadda yadda). Unfortunately, beat both truck have them get pissd and go drop a couple grand itno thier trucks and they will walk you, and you will not really have any way to fight back...
As an aded insult the 2007 GM trucks are really really improved fit and finish wise (if you can go by the SUVs), and are getting DoD, and if chevy actually puts their VVT 6.2 into a light chasis truck it is going to be a screamer.

You should subscribe to "Truck Trend" pretty good articles on comparing trucks. Other good articles as well.

Well first off what vehicles are these engines going into or what vehicles are you comparing at the moment? You cant just throw out an engine and not have what type of vehicle its going to be running in or what type of application the vehicle is set up for it doesn't work that way for any of the questions you are asking at the moment. You can have all the facts in the world about any engine but untill its installed and running a vehicle it means nothing. A perfect example of this are the SRT-10s. The Viper, the reg. cab SRT-10 Pickup and the Quad Cab SRT-10 Pick up all have the same V10 engine in them but if they were to all race the Viper would win followed by the Reg. Cab followed by the Quad Cab, if it was towing the Quad Cab would win then the Reg Cab and if your towing using a viper you're gonna get shot! And as far as how long they'll last the Viper will probably last the longest cause it'll rarely get driven.......
engine for engine running on a dyno thier all pretty powerful, add the fat F-150 body abd slush box auto to the 5.43v will get you a good tower with low end grunt, poor gas mileage, inability to rev in the higher RPMs.. I'm basied in a hateful way towards Ford after years of owning them.
The 5.3 hauls the bacon in the chevy, but chevy trucks are a lot lighter than Ford or Dodge and I have herad they get better mileage..
The 5.7 Hemi... Power is all thier. Gas mileage I'm not sure yet, at times the 5.7 in my 2500 is so dam good on gas, than at times it is worse than than the 5.43v
Rear axle ratios play a big part in towing and economy, 330 ( Ford ) 327 ( GM ) and ( 345, 0r 348 ) dodge are not big engines when compared to the 460, 454 or 440 big blocks and todays light duty trucks are more like cars that pretend to be trucks..That's why I bought a 2500..
also what is wrapped arround thease engines and how they are put togethier makes a big differance, Chey keep's refineing the old push rod V/8, Ford gave up on them with the Moduler design and dodge reinvented it self with Hemi Marketing..

Not to hijack, but Cyclone, from one former Ford owner to another, I still must confess the best truck I ever owned was my 77 F100 Custom with the 302 straight 6.
Ugly, noisy, power-NUTHIN, but built like a brick-outhouse and ran forever... over 470,000 on the original motor when I sold it.
Still miss that ride. and the 302 was arguably one of the best motors ever built.
Don't get me wrong, I love my 06 QC Hemi, but I don't think I'll ever be comfortable working on that motor like the 302.

Hey the stright 6 was 300 cubic inchs, 302 was the v/8, Back in the late 70's Ford truck engines were the best they ever have been, I too had a 77 F-100 with a 302 and 4sp and no power stearing, or power brakes and a big black vynil bench seat that you cooked ya but on a hot day, The body's were not that great, But I still see the odd un restored F-100 F-150 from the 70's and they look dam good, back than Ford earned thier reputation with thier trucks, I owned a 97 with a 4.2 5sp, that was a great truck, but the new stuff since 02 and 04+ is garbage..
I know the 302 351-400 engines like the back of my hand, now were in 2006 and Hemi is the only way to fly, or cummons if your flying with frieght...
