Towing with the '02 SLT 1500 Quad
Anyone recommend anything, other than Power Slot rotors (all round?) and new rear Bilstein shocks, I should do to my 5.9 liter SLT 1500 to make it easier to tow a 5,000+ lb. trailer?
Thanks,
Andrew
Thanks,
Andrew
Do a tranny service, including the bands and put in another tranny cooler as mentioned. Also, make sure your trailer is in good shape including the wiring, bulbs, tire pressure, wheel bearings, etc.
ORIGINAL: abridges01
Thanks Guys:
The 5.9L comes with a transmission cooler, do you suggest replacing this, adding to it, or will it manage with the transmission cooler as is?

You shouldn't need a single mod.
My 03 QC 1500 4.7 towed my 21' boat, gross weight around 9,000lbs, without a thought.
Really couldn't feel her back there...
This was a truck with 3.92's, 4x4, Tow package, and the heavy duty cooling package..
If you have the Tow Group, you have all you need.... I'd just give the tranny fluid a looksee and a sniff.
The "OD/OFF" button will be your friend in city/hilly areas.
If you bought the truck used, you'll probably want to inspect the brake rotors/pads for peace of mind.
Other than that, you should be good to go. You truck won't even feel 5000 lbs behind it... Just don't forget you're towing and try to hit that McD's for a late-night munchy-fest.

That was a pretty good feat considering that Dodge lists that particular truck with a 7100# tow rating.
