Default New Exhaust Done...Next on the list...

Just got the exhaust done on my 05 4.7. I went with the flowmaster 50 series single in and dual out. I didnt want the conventional dual tip on each side of the license plate. There were to many 90 deg bends. I had them fab up two 2-1/4 pipes from the muffler coming over the passenger side axle and straight out the rear on the passenger side. I went with two 3" SS tips. It looks pretty darn good IMO. I have some pics but since my computer at home is out I cant post them right now. It sounds great. Not too loud but enough to know its there. At idle and free revving the little 4.7 sounds pissed. Anyhow, next on the list is to lower it and get rid of the uneven factory stance. I am hoping to get some ideas on what you guys did, where you went, parts and pricing fm the lowest to the highest. I am talking cut springs to the best kit, short of air ride. Afterwards, I am thinking about throwing in a simple 50-75 shot. So any opinions on that is appreciated as well.

Regards
TT

they specialize in dodge drops

Thanks. The McGaughy's 2" - 4.5" Econo drop seems very doable. Here's the kicker...how much worse will the driveablility be? It is stiff as hell now but it seems to handle better then most other trucks. By some act of Goodness, can it be possible to actually get a smoother ride and drop it at the same time?? Thanks again.

i apologize in advance for this having nothing to do with your suspension question...

but im curious with how your exhaust setup sounds. i recently bought an '06 w/ the 4.7l and have been itching to modify the exhaust. i agree with your comments about too many 90 deg bends and have been considering a setup that sounds almost exactly like yours.

my concern is that some of the posts ive read recently speak of a "droning" of the exhaust at or around 2000 rpm. i dont like the sound of a resonance at those rpm's as thats about the same rpm's we drive at on the highway (ie ~ 70 mph or so). do you find this to be the case, or rather, have you noticed this? in fact, have you found there to be a resonance to exist anywhere below 85 mph with your setup? i had a camaro once that had this problem and although i initially thought it wouldnt bother me, it started to get on my head after a couple hours on the highway! ive heard that there is a formula for the ratio between the length of the tailpipe and the resonance thats produced that enables you to "tune" the sound a little, but cant recall what it is.

also, sure would like to see pics of the setup...thats too bad about your computer.

anyway, thanks in advance for any comments/input you might have. and for that matter, if anyone reading this knows of an exhaust setup thats "guaranteed" (ha! ok im only kidding there but you know what i mean) to not drone or resonate at an unfortunate rpm id sure like to hear about it. the more and more i go on, it might have been better to start a new thread.

sorry for the babbling!

chris

the only way ur going to recieve a better ride and dropping your truck will be bagging it

but the mcgaughys 2/4.5 deluxe drop i believe does not change the ride of ur truck unlike the eco. which will stiffen ur suspension

and yes u can put on the drop in ur drive way in about 5-6 hours depending on ur skills by what slammed1suspensions told me

p.s. ur handling will improve but ur ride will suffer

protoman333,

The droning you've read about is true. However, it isnt as bad as you think...at least not with my set up. I went with a 50 series muffler which is quieter then the 40 series which most people use. I would say, anything under 1700rpm is only a little louder then stock but once you get up to about 68-75mph their is a deep humming but, again, it isnt bad. I had my wife and three kids in the back all weekend and not one complaint. I love the way it sounds...stop to stop light driving it sounds bad ***. I also noticed a little quicker acceleration and it surely seems the rear tires want to break loose alot more easily which is difficult with 20's. I actually have pictures of the installation while it was in progress and the truck about 6 ft off the ground. You can clearly see how the piping is routed. It is cleaner install as well. It also saved me at least 30 lbs. I will try to post pics this week.

I was considering putting shackles on the rear. They're only about $55 but then I saw where u have to put different shocks on also for about $30 apiece. But still a lot cheaper than the other lowering kits I saw.

..here's how my flow 50 side exits look and sound...

Also, I went with the 2/4 Mcgaughy's deluxe drop (spindles and flip kit), I also changed out my shocks to Nitro Actives and bag assisted as well.... I love the way it rides now, much smoother than stock, but a firm sports car feel (not harsh).....
