Default Transmission problem - No reverse / No Parking

Hi people , i just opened my forum account, been a solid reader for a few months ...

But well, i have a new RAM 2500 Heavy Duty with the 48 transmission. Yesterday night i was driving home and i noticed when i accelerated the transmission was not
shifting gears on Drive, i noticed because it sounded like it was on first gear and it reached 3100 rev and didnt shifted to second ... or 3rd.

When i noticed it, I decided to park the truck on a mall , and when i was trying to park , i tried to place the car on REVERSE and guess what ? I could not ...
I could change the gears from Drive, 2nd and 1st but no reverse or park.

This car has 2334 miles on it ... is brand new !!!!

They had to take the car on a platform to the dealer, dealer says is definitely a mechanical problem and could be related to the solenoids ...
But man !!! , this is a brand new car !!!! no towing , no rough driving ... no nothing !!!!

You guys think this is a common issue ? should i be expecting this behavior from a Ram in the near future ???

By the way, im from Costa Rica, cars are freaking expensive here , i paid 64K for a new Ram 2500 full extras ... you must understand i feel like i want to puke when i think that this expensive car broke at 2k miles !

My other car, a Nissan Frontier pickup never ever broke on me ... this is ridiculous. ...

Well, thanks for letting me vent , if someone has had some experience on this please let me know

I haven't this happen to me, but it sounds like the transmission went into "Limp-in" mode. Which basically is a default program to let you drive the vehicle to the repair shop if the transmission has some kind of failure. I'm not too sure about the park thing though. Just my $.02.

Hi motorhead , thanks for your reply.
I had no idea the car had such a mode , obviously there was some failure ... which like i said sounds mechanical,
the computer was not giving any codes by the way.

Im about to call the dealer to see if they have a diagnosis now.

Ill update for those interested.

No, no Felito.

Osteodoc8 was asking if you had a diesel engine in the Ram?

Also, I believe "limp mode" would still allow your to select reverse.
I do believe it could be the solenoids selecting the gears etc, or a mechanical linkage problem.
Felito, have you checked the transmission fluid?
Just a wild guess that you might be low on transmission oil due to a leak or something?
Hope you get sorted quickly.
We hear in England also pay a FORTUNE for the pleasure of driving a Dodge Ram.
My second user 03 cost my $36K and petrol is close to $8.00 an imperial gallon.
BTW welcome to the forum.
Al.

Dealer just reported that there is no external damage .... so .... it gets more complicated,
they have to take down the whole tranny to find the real damage.

I will get a probable answer until next tuesday , im so pissed ... an unhappy
