Just installed Hypertech Programmer
Ive been wanting this mod for the longest time. I finally have gotten it and it doens't meet up to my expectations. They say up to 16 horsepower more. I dont notice any more horse. All i notice is it shifts faster. I ran it on the 87 octane gas. It could also run on 93. However i dont expect it to gain that much more power by doing so. Is that where all the horse power comes from? Just using higher octain gas? Please help me if you can! Thank you.
A guy at work installed one on his Thunder Road. Said it increased his mileage. He took off past me once and there was a lot of smoke dumping out of the tail pipe like it was running rich.
I've had one for a year already, and did not notice any more HP either. I actually wondered if it is less for normal driving, just more in the higher RPM range where I don't drive very frequently.
I kept it on because it lets me run 87 octane without knocking. I am curious to try out the 93 tuning but don't want to pay the extra $$$ for gas.

i would be damn happy with just faster shifts and better shift points...my 4x4 shifts like a dog out of 1st at like 5200 rpm then out of 2nd at less than 5000 rpm....thats crap...my ford would hammer into the next gear at damn near 6000 rpm.
Could you feel the torque management cut back any? Thats my main purpose for wanting to buy one. I'm waiting to pick up the HyperPac ($800 MSRP). I like it because it has all the engine parameters and it is touch screen, not to mention it has the drag strip simulator.
Fuel economy... I get an average of about 18-19 on the highway now, and sometimes 20mpg if I'm driving with the wind. If the hyperpac can get me better than that I'd say its worth it. Now whether or not to use 93 octane or the 87. First of all I have always run 89, and I know that the programmer allows the use of the 87, but I'm gonna buy one for performace inprovement, so I'm not gonna use less than 89. The cost difference for 27 gallons of 89 versus 93 is only$2.70. In my opinion increased performace does not come free, and and increase for under $3 (less the cost of the programmer) is worth it. Just my $.02

As far as why I got mine, their marketing docs promised more power than stock even by using 87. Maybe it did, maybe not, most likely at higher RPM's if anything. However, I looked at it as, 10 cents per gallon savings when running 87 instead of 89. This was when gas prices had just spiked last year, and $2.50 seemed outrageous. (!) I was also driving 700-1000 miles per week, driving out of state to work plus all the normal kid/family driving. So, to get mor epower for cheaper gas seemed like I could cost-justify the thing pretty quickly.
I actually bought this thing used on eBay. This is part of an email from the seller, per his experience (remember, his words, not mine):
FROM EMAIL:
I had Flowmaster 40s through true duals with an H-pipe, an aFe CAI. I tuned
the truck to 93 Octane with the Hypertech. Now mind you I have a odd-ball
Hemi truck. It is a full time 4wd reg cab short bed. Full time 4wd being
what dodge calls AWD, basically all 4 wheels are pulling all the time, so
turning the tires over is not going to happen very easy. Well the computer
enabled me to get them all 4 going for about 40 foot on slightly damp
pavement. Now when I say damp I mean ever so lightly. Light enough that the
275/70/17s were squalling and not just spinning. I actuall! y left 2 very wide
black marks, wide because the truck was dog walking sideways to the right
and moving forward at the same time. If you know how a posi traction rear
end walks to the right when you break them lose, just imagine the front and
rear doing that at the same time.
I also programmed it for 89 octane and felt a good bit of difference when I
punched the truck at 60 MPH and ran it up to 90 MPH. It is supposed to work
best with a 180 deg thermostat in it, however with you being up north you
would most likely have to swap out the stat in the winter time so your
heater would heat up in a reasonable time. The part number is Mr. Gasket
4367 you can get it at http://www.summitracing.com for about $10 with $10
shipping. $20 is not a bad deal for an additional 15 HP out of the computer.
I put the computer up for sale because I was intending on trading my truck
for a Hemi Charger RT.

um I think he was full of poodle poop, I have had all time 4wds in the past and NEVER NEVER have had one spin ALL fours on even damp pavement. Maybe it was possible, but I doubt it.

I dont drive my truck that often. I ride my Harley everywhere. So sadly ive installed it and dont notice any difference in power just longer rmp range and faster shifts. I have not had a chance to test the Torque managment. I hope it does bypass it, if it does than it was well worth it! Torque Managment is in the transmittion. It only allows you to power brake up to 2000rpms and wont let the tires burn out. I also have a 04 qc hemi. It sucks. Very rare but sometimes i can get the truck past it not sure what i do different.
Hi newbie here Just purchased my 04 QC Hemi in june of this year. Real heavy foot I notice when I slam the gas she takes a bit to react would the chip smooth out and quicken the response. right now I get about 8-10 in city driving my lead foots fault hopefully when the newness of her runs out I will be a little better on gas
