how to make the most mpg
That sucks [
] I purchased a 06 QC 4X2 with the V-6, 6 speed to get better MPG I am getting 16.7 to 17.1 MPG If I knew the HEMI gotten the same MPG I would of purchased one of those instead.
I sold my 2002 gas Hog Ford F250 4X4 with the 5.4 oversize tire and regeared ECT that gotten 10 MPG for this truck.
I glad to see my MPG gain with the Dodge
but if I knew I would of gotten the Hemi gotten the same MPG as the V-6 man I should of gotten the Hemi instead.
I drive 70% HWY at 70 MPH I think my wifes mini van gets better MPG than I getting but cant tell her this she just going to rub it in I wish I gotten the Hemi.

Before you do any performance modifications, ask your self how long you want to keep your truck.
I put on a cat back ex on my 06 2500 ram with the 5.7 and I noticed my mileage is up 1 mpg to 1.5 mpg city driving, I also changed the Brand of gas from Petro Canada to Shell, I have allway's used 89 octane.
CAI I'm not so sure I'm going to put one on, I use my truck five days a week for work, so not driving is not a option, over the year, My mods to the EX system will pay for it's self
The 2006 2500HD Hemi's dont have MDS. I have asked around and I have'nt seen a difference with MDS or no MDS other than a vibration in the MDS at low RPM, the MPG are showing up the same on HEMI Ram.
I'm gonna plug for the vacuum gauge again. In my experience, driving for max vacuum is one of the cheapest, easiest, quickest ways to improve mileage. Were I aiming for mileage that would be the first thing to be installed.
Luckily, My GAS mileage is WAY up since I went with the Diesel option...

Excellent discourse on octane and Ethanol!
Don't you just love how the State's ( I'm in CA) force us to use oxygenates to reduce pollution, and yet they reduce fuel economy and most pollute water. [sm=wtf.gif]

Do you run any form of biodiesel? b20, b100, uvo?
I read this whole post and no one mentioned one of the easiest and most efficient mods that someone could do to their trucks. An electric fan!! I put on a fan, and not only do I see fuel economy improvements, but the throttle response is a LOT better, and it warms up in the winter a LOT faster, rather than having that mechanical fan spin constantly. Besides, I hate hearing that mechanical fan right after start up, and the first acceleration after start up. All the mods I've done to my truck have improved my fuel economy. I did an intake first, which gave me 1-2 mpg better. Then I added the exhaust (1- 50 series flowmaster), and a electric fan. Now I can average 19+mpg on a 500 mile trip. I also have towed trailers around the 5000lb mark, and see 15-16mpg. When I bought the truck, it couldn't get past 16 on the highway at 75 mph. I'd say that I gained 3-4 mpg overall. All my mpg math comes from pen and paper, not just the overhead computer. Although my overhead computer is only off by abotu 0.5 mpg. And for all of you that have less than 20,000 miles on your truck, just wait until the engine has some miles on it, because you will get better mileage after the engine breaks in. Just my $.02 .....oh ya, almost forgot, I have a 2005, 1500, 4x4 hemi.
I've got an '02 1500 quad cab 4x4 with the 5.9. I have a K&N CAI, Gibson Dual Exhaust, AirRaid throttle body spacer, Hypertech tuner (removed the speed governor/optimized for 87 octane/increased rev limit 500 rpm) and aftermarket plugs/wires. I do mostly highway driving, usually staying around 2000 rpm at 75-78 mph and average 18.5 mpg. Before all the mods I was averaging 13.3. I still want to get a tonneau cover...
just to interject -
I purchased a 1987 Honda Accord in great shape and 151k miles last night for $950 and it gets 32 mpg.
Insurance runs about $160 a year. How much do all those mods for the truck cost for 1 maybe 2 mpg gain?
My 2005 Dodge truck still is in the yard all shiny and new with less than 15k on the clock.
