how to make the most mpg
Okay, there has been a lot of debate over the forums latelyso I was wondering what the best mods would be. Having said that, I KNOW for a fact that 4.56's, intake, exhaust, superchips set on 87 tune (but burning 89 octane) and tonneau cover will give you serious mpg gains.....what am I missing?
Park your truck and ride a bicycle.
I have the same mods except the gears and I have NOT seen serious MPG gains. Some, but not major. I yet to try it but I seen on here before that if you keep your RPMs under 2000 at all times, you will notice a gain. I haven't tried this so I can't prove or disprove, nor do I drive my truck that easy. There is 100 different things people will tell you on here that they beleive help on MPG

Well, With A cat-back 40 series flowmaster, powerwire, tonneau cover, K&N CAI, Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil, running 87octane and always driving at least 5 miles over the speed limit I get over 20 miles per gallon. And that is a true number, not the overhead computer's figure. So, I beleive that I am getting a pretty good effiency
So what you're telling everyone here is you wasted a ****load of money for nothing? I have a stock 2006 Dodge QC and I get the same MPG as you do on the freeway.
I can do 70 mpg and squeeze 22 to 23 mpg out of a stocky with no mods, and that's 5 mph over the limit. By the way, that's not what's indicated on the POS computer but actual mileage.
Judging from your comments the mods are mearly a waste of your wage. Better to save the greenbacks for the gas pump.

20 MPG is incredible. I think I could see that only if I drive downhill all the time. My wife's minivan gets only 17MPG. Do you do a lot of highway driving or live in a relatively flat, open region?
Yeah, I do alot of highway driving. And I guess the area around here is a mix of flat land and hills.

About half and half. Driving to and from work is 10 miles of highway and 10 miles of city driving. In the city I average around 16, on the highway around 22 to 23.
Overall average is probably in the neighborhood of 17 to 19 mph with 89 octane. Bare in mind I don't have a lead foot. I baby my HEMI.

i have a 2006 quad cab 2wd and i noticed no increase in mpg after my upgrades. i think i actually lost mpg. my upgrades are as follows airaid intake, magnaflow exhaust, trifecta tonn. cover. i have the thunder road package with a 3.92 rear and 20in. rims and tires
Another difference might be the fuel. I'm putting in 87 octane, to take advantage of the 10 cents per gallon savings that I get with the Hypertech programmer. Additionally, gas in CT contains 10% ethanol. They used to have an additive used only in the winter to reduce cold weather smog days. This was MTBE, which is a carcinogen that leaches into water supplies too easily, so they switched to ethanol. Anyway, ethanol contains less potential energy than gasoline by about one third. This means my effective octane rating is maybe 82? (With more precise ethanol energy numbers maybe we could figure that out.) There was a question in the technical Q&A about this in Road & Track a month or two ago... I will have to dig through all the R&T's in the bathroom to find it, but when I do I will post that.
Why I think this is an important difference is, I would bet that not all states are doing this. It is stated right on the gas pumps, "contains 10% ethanol". Are you guys with the great gas mileage also seeing this?
And I wonder if, because of this, I'd do better with 89 or even 93.
