Default changing tire sizes

The stock tires on my dodge are wimpy and there is so much clearance in the wheel wells it looks funny. So I am moving up to sizes in tires. Will changing my tire size from 245/70/17 to 265/70/17 affect anything, performance, gas milage, speedometer?

Going from 245 to 265 will not affect anything as far as gas mileage or speedo. Handling should improve. I have 285's on mine and haven't seen a difference in mileage/speedo. Truck rides much better as well!

I had 245/70/17 tires and had the worst time finding replacvements. I got 265/70/17. Beefire tire. When comparing my spedometer with my GPS, I was about 2.5 mph off. ( Truck was doing 62.5 spedometer red 60). I was also told that 285 would not affect speed also and was told they would fit. But I got a better deal with the 265's.

245/70/17 have 30.6 inch diameter,
265/70/17 have 31.6
285/70/17 33.0

so a change from 245 to 265 would raise truck 1/2 inch, change from 245 to 285 would be 1.2 inches higher.

Just going from 265 to 285 was noticably higher with mine and the wider tires look 10 times better. As far as pics, just click on the little camera under my name to the left to check the gallery out. I need to update with new pics though. I finally took the stupid chrome fuel door off and replaced with brushed aluminum to match the rims.
